I've played the random Tool song timing thing in the gym. However long the song plays is how long I do abs/core, without a break. Some days I get off easy, and some days I get 7empest. Ouch.

That was impressive! I generally don't like covers, particularly of Tool, but that was a unique version.Listening to this one right now, it popped up at the end of the Forty Six & 2 one. Equally impressive, IMO.

I scored two great seats to the San Diego show this morning. One for me, one for my daughter. It’ll be her first show. So stoked.

Can someone please explain the methodology behind how Tool selects their opening acts?
Catching them for my 4 th time in Philly and yikes...

We didn't even show up in time to see them.
Where are you? I'm in section 102 (and putting my phone away now before I get tossed)

210.
Can say, the sound was much better from the floor (Nov 2019) vs way up here.

Sound seemed a bit off lower down compared to the last Philly show too.. Maynard's voice was lost in the mix a few times. I had ear protection in and thought that might have been a factor, but took them out to check and it was just as bad.
A friend went to the Houston show and said the sound was absoulutely terrible there, and there have been a few discussions about this tour's sound quality issues in FB/Reddit threads.
Still a great show though - nice to hear the revamped setlist!

You did yourself a favor by missing that opening act. Holy crap that was bad.

Not sure the ear protection is what did it. I also thought the vocals got lost in the mix and I wasn't wearing any ear protection

I learned my lesson with Killing Joke in Philly and AC in 2019.. and I actually like some of their music. Absolute shite live, just a mess of noise. The May 2020 show that got postponed to last night was supposed to have Author+Punisher as the opener.. glad we didn't get him this time.
My buddy that was with me last night saw Tool in AC back in.. 2007(?) and Melt Banana was the opener.. he said that was just a bunch of crappy noise too.
Really not sure how/why they pick the acts they do.
Merch-related side note... did you see the vinyl sets they were selling for $810 last night? $2k on Ebay this morning.
The posters are getting flipped for crazy prices too... $1600+ for a $60 unsigned poster.

I get the feeling they pick those acts to purposely be so bad, that when Tool gets on you feel so refreshed by them.
As for merch - I saw the line when I walked in thought nothing was worth waiting in that line.

Merch: think those posters are a bit limited edition, pretty much only obtainable by those getting early admission via VIP tickets. Not my thing either but item is gone so there does seem to be a market even with the steep markup.
Sound: was really bummed about the cutouts. Made me wonder if it was MJ loosing ability to hit the screams night after night. Really did like the set list though, well - aside from Drum Trip, of course!
Side note: parking is now $30!! Obscene.

I did appreciate the Drum Trip for one thing - basically extending the intermission time to use the restroom past when everyone else wanted to be back in their seats!

Yeah my buddy drove so I paid for parking. It's ridiculous. We also somehow managed to not wait in line to exit after the show - we parked over by the train station and as we were approaching the long line of cars snaking through the lot, I spotted a short driveway thing leading to.. an open gate onto Broad! Took longer to walk to the car than it did to get out of the lot. Fastest I've ever gotten out of that complex in years of concerts, games and events.
I liked CCT last night more than previous performances.. DC's drumming was incredible and you can see he's having a blast doing it.

Fear Inoculum finally has a vinyl release (on April 8). Amazon seems to be the cheapest option, everywhere else seems to have it at $170+, if you can even find an online store that didn't already sell out its pre-order allocation.
