Anyone who can successfully integrate the word "parthenogenesis" into a catchy song is a genius in my book:

In a jungle of the senses
Tinkerbell and Jack the ripper
Love has no meaning, not where they come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple
Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully correctly wrong

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendor of our achievement
Call in the air strike with a poison kiss

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

How bad it gets, you can't imagine
The burning wax, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, he owns our business
Karma could take us at any moment
Cover him up, I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know, my dreams are visions
We could still end up with the great big fishes

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

I could never figure out why The Wiggles were wearing Classic Star Trek uniforms [but what department is Purple, anyway?]

I asked Hank Williams "how lonely does it get?". Hank Williams hasn't answered yet.

That's actually a cover. The original is by Bruce Cockburn. Lots of other good lines in "wondering where the lions are", " Love and romance", "Coldest night of the year" .

There needs to be some Tragically Hip on here:

It was in Bobcaygeon, I saw the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time

Or

New Orleans is sinking and I don't wanna swim

Or

That's when the hornet stung me and I had a feverish dream. With revenge and doubt, that's when we smoked them out.

Then again, Glenn Campbell:

And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time.

She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under a black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway
She brings me white golden pearls
Stolen from the sea
She is ragin', she is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand still

And the hangovers hurt more than they used to
And cornbread and ice tea took the place
Of pills and ninety proof
And it seems like none of us do things quite like we used to do
And nobody wants to get high on the town
And all my rowdy friends have settled down

Suppose you started playing the 1988 song by The Proclaimers, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). That song is about 131.9 beats per minute, so imagine that with every beat of the song, you move forward more than two miles.

In the time it took to sing the first line of the chorus, you could walk from the Statue of Liberty all the way to the Bronx:

It would take you about two lines of the chorus (16 beats of the song) to cross the English Channel between London and France.
The song's length leads to an odd coincidence. The interval between the start and the end of I'm Gonna Be is 3 minutes and 30 seconds,[10] and the ISS is moving is 7.66 km/s.

This means that if an astronaut on the ISS listens to I'm Gonna Be, in the time between the first beat of the song and the final lines ...

... they will have traveled just about exactly 1,000 miles.

Some girls are sadistic, materialistic,
Lookin' for a man makes them opportunistic,
They're lyin' on the beach perpetratin' a tan,
So that a brother with money can be their man.
So on the beach you're strollin, real high rollin',
Everything you have is yours and not stolen.
A girl runs up with somethin' to prove,
So don't just stand there, bust a move.

Not the deepest meaning, but the lyrics and rhymes in this song always amused me. Flea's bass guitar contributes to the song, too.

The finest hour that I have seen
Is the one that comes between
The edge of night and the break of day
When the darkness rolls away

It's gone away in yesterday
And I find myself on the mountainside
Where the rivers change direction
Across the Great Divide
