Swapping different disc wheels on a Venge
Quote | Reply
So i am trying to figure out wheels for my in-coming Venge.

Had settled on CL/CLX50s for now and then gettomg Enve 7.8s later.

But the Spesh guy is telling me that because of differences in hub sizes, i might have alignment issues with the disc brakes.

Is that true? And if so, how easy would it be to fix the alignment for someone who is reasonably capable of wrenching his own bike (but who doesnt necessarily like to muck around with this too much)?

TIA!

Easy to fix. Loosen calliper bolts, insert rotors, squeeze brake levers, tighten caliper bolts. ***this could be tedious if you do this often.

How often do you think that you will be changing wheels?

Don't hydro brakes self align? I could be wrong though.

No, they don’t self align. They self separate with a clip so that the pads don’t touch the rotor, except when braking of course.

The alignment is really easy though and just as described above. I also recommend getting a rotor straightening tool. You should periodically free spin each wheel to make sure the rotor isn’t touching the pads. If so, time to realign and/or retrue the rotor.

Thanks for that - that doesnt sound very difficult at all. The dealer made it sound as though it would be fairly complicated.

Theres nothing special about an Enve hub that could mess alignment, right? Cos, as per the dealer, the spacing of the hubs was off, as was the centerline.

I dont plan to swap regularly - the 7.8s will likely be my regular wheels, and the 50s will most likely come on for some group rides and/or when i take my bike to the mountains for a riding holiday.

The dealer seems to be confused.

Or he is trying to upsell me on the Roval CLX64s...

Either way, good to know that i can indeed swap Enve and Rovals without too many issues...

Thanks for the help, peeps.
