Good morning and Happy Monday, Ladies!

Sher and Dr. TC, I hope you had good weeks with your families!
SoCal, I cannot wait to hear about your epic bike ride this weekend!

Last week's goal was to make it through without hiccups (or something like that) and dear reader, I MADE IT. Oh thank goodness. I had bloodwork done on Monday and my hormone levels are all out of sorts again (though you didn't have to make me do that to know something was up). I think pushing too hard for a couple of weeks did me no favors. But, I managed to make it through ALL of my workouts. My coach adjusted my intensity levels and I was able to relax on my long run for the first time in ages. And because of that, I was able to recover well and make it through my 50 mile ride and run brick without issue on Sunday. So, phew.

This week's goal: FINISH LINE PLEASE

Monday- rest day (nailin' it!)
Tuesday- 2000yd swim and 20min run brick. I'm also volunteering for my team at our kids' team splash and dash that night
Wednesday- Team Track. I'm also volunteering at the Museum's Congressional Night, I'll be dropping science truth bombs on our legislators and their families!
Thursday- 30min swim and 60min bike brick
Friday- rest day
Saturday- shakeout s/b/r brick, travel to NJ
Sunday- NJ State Oly tri! I get to see my IronBae! I get to finally see a damn finish line again!

Glad to hear your workouts felt more manageable Dr_C. Enjoy your rest day and happy racing this weekend!

My goals were: 3 x swim, 4 x bike, 4 x run, 2 x strength. Make the most of the time with my grandmother. Managed it all except 1 strength workout. I was exhausted and pretty stressed out by the time we dropped my grandmother off at the airport on Saturday morning - her mobility isn't great and I wasn't prepared for all the little things I had to do during the week. Hats off to all those who have others reliant on you to care for them.

This week: 3 x swim, 4 x bike, 4 x run, 2 x strength.

OLY is in the BOOKS. Saturday the 13th was a beautiful sunny day. The transition area was super-organized and we all had a little corral area and a stool to sit on or whatever, labeled with our number. A nice touch. After driving out of NYC (and by "driving" I mean I drove 2 miles from home to sit trapped outside the Lincoln Tunnel for 90 minutes, and THEN both 17 and the Thruway were syrupy messes and so I made it to the race site at 5 and was like OMG will they let me set up. The answer: yes, it was very relaxed and casual and packet pickup took like three seconds and I was able to put my little organized bins in their corral, check my tires and gears and walk the rather long path to the swim start to check it out. Decided to DEFINITELY wear the run shoes to swim start and FROM swim start and it added minutes but dude, they may as well have put down LEGOS on that path- rocks, sticks, lions and tigers and bears. Lake was a toasty 78. No wetsuit baby, no wetsuit. Didn't have it with me anyway. Next morning arrived wickedly early so I could park at race site. It was a good choice. Got to see the full and half start and talk with several folks also headed to OOB 70.3 (see you in 6 weeks Dr Cupcake!..ish). Leisurely used the sunscreen stick. Oly didn't start until 9:08. Lily pads on right side of swim course. Don't get tangled in lily pads. Ok fine, get a LITTLE tangled but stay calm, and then don't do it again. Swam a little out of the way to avoid them, with great paranoia. Accidentally swam 20% extra. Le sigh. Also, I know this just sounds whiny, but my right goggle kept leaking!! Bleargh! So much readjusting. Has never happened with these. So my swim was trying but I stayed very chill. Definitely supplemented with some breaststroke and some kicks on my back (GOGGLES, I'm looking at you!). T1 took a long time. Put on shoes, jog path, take off shoes, you get the drift. But I got on that bike and even with my stops (that eating and drinking thing? still working on it) only went over my bike goal by 7 minutes. T2 was relaxed. Little more sunscreen, took a gel, drank water, all that good stuff. Course had lots of shade but it was still in the 80s in the shade. My pace was back of the pack BUT it was actually faster than most standalone 10K races I have done, so that was a big plus. I feel like that counts for something. Also my hubs (mr one-sport cyclist, gifted at it and all) escorted my almost the whole last mile, which was very motivating. So here's the best part. I was the ONLY GAL who raced as Athena. So I got "first". Heh. Out of ONE. As per AG, there were only four of us and I was third. :) 90/105. For my second triathlon and first Olympic, I'll take it! Next stop, 70.3. Basically my next 3.5-4 weeks are #BRICKLIFE xoxo

Something tells me the congresspeople that will be interested in science are not the ones we need to worry about getting fingerprints on our ladyparts. But I'll try my best for you ;)

Thanks for getting us started, Dr. Tigerchik. Nice work getting after your goals, hope your SI is feeling back to normal.
Scheherazade, I hope you enjoyed the time despite the stress. I've been in that position and it's not an easy one.
Dr. C, good work staying on top of things and finding a level that works for you. Good luck this weekend too! LOL'ed at IronBae.
Congratulations YoMoGo! I have never swum with lilypads, that's wild.

My goals last week were:
Quote:
[R]iding my bike from Seattle to Portland but have 2-3 regular swim, bike, run workouts before that goofiness.

I ran and swim twice but obviously the ride was the week's big adventure. Including my two trainer workouts at home, I spent 14 hours on my bike last week. Woo! The ride was fun and I was really happy to spend some time with my friend. She and I rode more than 150 miles from Seattle the first day and then a fast 50 the next day into Portland. We spent the rest of Sunday and all of Monday eating of the Rose City's deliciousness with some of our other friends.

We ran yesterday in Portland and this week I'll run two more times, swim four times, and eventually get back on my bike. I have a meaty run workout midweek (The most important and exciting thing I'm doing this week is guiding a visually impaired athlete at the Paratriathlon National Championships. I've never been a guide and I'm honored and excited by the opportunity.

Happy training y'all and have a great week.

Hiiii ladies!

It's so, so good to read about all your adventures.

Cupcake, enjoy the race in Jersey! Glad you are figuring out your hormones.

Scheherezade, glad you were able to care for grandma and get most everything in.

YoMoGo, congrats on the finish!!!! Seems like you're having a lot of fun with it.

Tigerchick, sorry about your SI joint. Enjoy the workouts this week!

SoCal, that ride does seem wild. I'm really intrigued by the guiding gig. I look forward to hearing more about it!

I got through my busy work trip ok. Did just about everything, but I was in North Carolina and I was slow n the heat. It was probably good for me to navigate it, but it did make everything kinda miserable. Then I got to the Sunday long run and folded like a house of cards. I think I was dehydrated, and tired from all the travel. Just couldn't do it. So I came home and did the long run yesterday, which is forcing me to adjust my schedule for the week:

M: Long run
T: strength, threshold bike workout, long swim (but I had a migraine this morning, so I'm backed up again)
W: swim, easy run, easy bike
Th: strength, hill repeats
F: rest
S: Brick
Su: long run, swim

Happy training!

Hey, everyone!

Dr_C, sorry to hear about your hormone levels (and thanks for your thoughts in last week's thread). I'm happy to hear you were able to dial it back to have an enjoyable long run and ride. Hopefully you continue to feel better and have a great race!

Scheherazade, that does sound exhausting and I'm impressed you only missed one workout. Hopefully you spent some good quality time with your grandmother.

YoMoGo, congrats!!!!!!!!! Also congrats on your first place finish =) and rock these last few training weeks before the big day.

Dr. T, hope your SI joint is feeling better and you are getting in more quality miles!

SoCal, wow, what an exciting couple of weeks! Awesome ride adventure and I'm sure you will be a great guide. What a rewarding experience.

GN, sorry to hear about you being tired and dehydrated, but I'm glad you were able to adapt and not push through anything that made you sick. Resting is also important!

It wasn't a great week but a good week. Two trainer rides and an outdoor ride, not as long as I would have liked but still enjoyable. Runs were good, I bumped them up to 3:30/1:30 run/walk and managed one easy, one "fast" (pushing slightly harder on the run portions) and one "long" (five run intervals instead of my usual four), but at least I feel like I'm making progress. I only did one weights video and one short PT session, sadly. I felt that weights video in my quads for DAYS which was not reassuring at the time but funny in retrospect.

It's supposed to be beastly hot with thunderstorms these next few days so I might have to shift some running around to make it work. If I can't run and don't want to get on the treadmill, maybe it'll inspire me to do lift more weights and do all my PT inside in the AC. =)

Hope you ladies are off to a good week.
