Holly Lawrence is on fire after being out with injury last year. Will she eventually move up to Ironman and if she does how will she do in Kona.

Not really sure why anyone would want to move up to Kona if they didn't have to. Ironman is brutal when you have to race it and the number of paydays is limited. I jogged with her last year in Kona and we talked about it. Didn't sound like there was any interest to make the jump.

Everyone says that Thomas...

I'd imagine she'll be at IMAZ this November or an IM in 2020.

Who knows on the IM front, her biggest issue has been overtraining and injury, which are higher risks in moving up in the distance... I just want to see a duel at 70.3 worlds between her and Ryf with both of them healthy...

I suspect at some point she'll give the full a go, likely due to pressure from sponsors to see what she could do at Kona, but she's doing quite well on the 70.3 circuit where you can race more often and thus have more opportunities at prize money...

I'm also intregued to see a fully fit Ryf V Lawrence at 70.3, my money would be on Ryf but she's possibly the only women capable of beating Ryf at the moment.

Are we sleeping on Rinny? She destroyed the field at Mt Tremblant yesterday. Had fastest bike split by almost 2 minutes (most were 6+ minutes slower). Had almost a 4 min lead off the bike then cruised to the fastest run of the day by almost 3 minutes.

I second Thomas' comments. I've trained with her a few times and see her out on rides... she likes the 'shorter' and fast stuff and I don't think has it in her to slow down. Her "long" runs alone are wayyyy too fast for Ironman and she loves to push them as fast as she can (at least when I ran with her).

With that said, I wouldn't doubt that she'll move up at a certain point. I think she really wants to get another 70.3 World title and then decide. If she wins in September, maybe Kona 2020 but she'd have to completely alter her training.

I love Rinny ....but I think her swim is too slow to compete. I don't think she has the engine on the bike to catch Barclay-Charles, or Holly, but I would love to see her do it!!! Love her run!!!

I also agree with thomas.

Too many professionals that are great at 70.3 move to Ironman. Earn less prize money, if any, and disappear.

Luke Bell was an awesome 70.3 racer but kept going to Ironman (Still does) and performs like crap.

Have a look at Crowie in his twilight. He is doing about 8-12 70.3's each year and winning most of them. Making some nice cash. If he went back to Kona, he would be lucky to come top 10 and earn $500.

Agree with you about Luke Bell. For whatever reason he never lived up to his potenial in this sport. I remember watching that Triathlon movie with him, Peter Reid, Heather Fuhr and made it feel like he was the next up and coming great.

Disagree with your usage of Crowie. Comparing Crowie in his mid 40s versus his mid 30s isn't fair :)

Crowie did win Kona when he was racing countless 70.3s in a season. In 2008 and 2009 when he won Kona he was racing ALOT. in 2011 he toned it down some and then broke the Kona record while winning his 3rd title.

Most GREAT 70.3 racers should be able to move to IM and have a good transition.

Spot on Sean. Rinny had a fantastic performance and was most impressed with her bike on a course which by no means is flat, she has really worked on her bike and it shows! I think her 2019 planning is coming right on track to peak at Kona. Don't believe she will fight Ryf and Charles for the win, but could definitely see her round out the podium. A fantastic athlete no doubt and legend of the sport.

On another note and as far as the thread on Holly, she mentioned at St. George 70.3 how much she loves the course and would love to do the full IM there as her first one. Could definitely see her do that race in 2020.

This lady is a true 70.3 specialist. Her performance at Vietnam in hot weather was so impressive.
SHe's been winning 70.3 races back to back. She's definitely on fire.

Crowie won Kona 3x and took second once. Not sure how he fits in this. As an old man, peaking for Kona might be tough. He's 46. He and Potts churning out results like they are at their current ages is pretty amazing.
