For the most part, that is a list of triathlons that offer a duathlon as an after-thought. And to paraphrase Crocodile Dundee; 'that's not a duathlon, THIS (https://en.powerman.swiss/) is a duathlon!!"

Are you looking for any distance in particular? Everything you linked was 2018 btw
  • Tri Indy usually has a solid turnout and is really well run
  • Indianapolis Sprint series around Eagle Creek are solid
  • Nationals in Greenville was really sub-par last year
  • The series up in Boulder, CO on the Reservoir are great
  • Barkin Dog is a fun fast course in Aurora, CO
  • Xterra events are really fun if you want to swap for mtb/trail run

Powerman is something that I would love to do, but I do not want to travel outside of the country as its not in the budget.

Wants:
  • Well run events (with a good atmosphere)
  • Continental United States
  • Large participant turnout (competitive women's field is a plus)
  • Distance isn't important sprint-ultra is fine by me
*Yes, I was aware that it was 2018 events listed. I wanted to capture everything out there in one shot and USAT didn't have that for 2019.

Why? You a wuss?

There’s a reason so many ST’ers pimp for AmZof - it’s awesome.

And the trail runs are a very big part of what makes it awesome.

? plenty of ladies have raced AmZof- and many have raced it well! Survival of the Mills gets a nod as well- really tough course and a very cool crowd of participants.

So?
I know a TON of Womens who have raced AmZof, including LC record holder Mimi Boyle.

Here’s her take on it:

Long Course Female Record Holder Mimi Boyle

A spectacle of suffering some would say,
Once in October and now in May.
With the Shawagunks as a backdrop in clear sight,
We arrive with feelings of terror and fright.
Pre-race jitters are one-times-a-million,
As we all grab our chips near the pavilion.
Mother nature is cooperating which is huge,
Yet warm temps and clear skies offer little refuge.
McGovern’s pre-race speech is short and sweet,
The horn goes off and we move our feet.
A five-mile run that continually climbs,
Legs are burning and you start to whine.
Starting the bike we hope for the best,
But each road looks hillier than the next.
The 3rd loop up to Mohonk makes you weep,
Why do we do this…we should still be asleep.
Turning into the T2 and what lies ahead,
A 15-mile trail run that will leave us half dead.
But remember what Billy Crystal said in The Princess Bride?
Half dead is not fully dead, so show some damn pride.
Time to get our weary ass out on that dreadful course,
Wake your legs up and show them who’s boss.
Run the first loop and hear people cheer,
But you’ve got 2 more to go before you get your beer.
Run loop two, but it’s more like a walk,
The voices in your head are starting to talk.
“This is the last time I ever do something like this”
I could be getting a pedicure in the city at Bliss.
I should be lying on my couch eating Doritos,
John McGovern owes me a year’s worth of tasty mojitos.
But on loop 3 it all becomes clear,
You realize why you come back each year.
The suffering is a spectacle like no other,
You beg it stop, you call out for your mother.
But it doesn’t end until you see,
The pavilion ahead at the end of loop 3.
It’s an oasis of sorts that only Amzof finishers would attest,
That makes you realize this is the best.
You’re 4 steps away from the finish line,
You’re legs are screaming, but you’re soul feels sublime.
You climb those steps and it’s all so surreal,
HELLO kegs of beer and a hot tasty meal.
Many have stayed to see you finish,
The hours have passed, but the crowds not diminished.
You sit and reflect your decision to race,
You look at your time and your outrageous pace.
So why will you sign up for this next year?
Is this really worth a stein of beer?
You look around at the others in pain,
And it hits you in the head like a drop of rain.
We did something unthinkable out there today,
Our legs said STOP, but our minds said “no way”.
Most difficult course without a doubt,
It eats you up and spits you out.
But you finished and you’re left in this state of zen,
If signups for next year were available you’d grab a pen.
It was a day of catastrophic disaster,
But you can’t help think “I know I’ll go faster”.
And so that’s why I love this race,
It’s a pure test of will presented face to face.
Thank you Catskill Mountain Sport for inventing this event,
Though it’s course I do lament.
For I will be back year after year,
And yes…if not for the sheer competitive camaraderie, then quite certainly the stein of BEER!

You can also wait for Tsunami and CeeCee to chime in about how awesome it is -
And last time I checked, they’re both Womens too.

Maybe some people don't like trail running?

As a two-time long course participant (dnf'er), I did not care for the run course at all. It was loopy and not at all straightforward and I got lost the first year. I love trailing, just not in a race. My dnf's were digestion related, not the trail running, but not everyone loves a trail run, especially when you are not a local who knows the run course by heart. I would probably go back if it was not on Sunday, but I quit Sunday racing a few years ago.

As for the bike course, that is as much fun as you can have in a 29-mile loop. Assuming that fun equates to all uphill or downhill with some screaming descents.

I get that.

But - I also don’t get that.
Trails are FUN. Roads are boring.

Live a little people.
Broaden your horizons.

FWIW - AmZof run course is probably 70% carriage roads/10% fields/20% singletrack.

And of that 20% that’s singletrack, you’re going UP for probably 15% (the 3 big run climbs are all trails), and only flat/down for the other 5%.

So, that fear of “I’m careening thru the woods and I’m going to trip and eat it” is confined to 5% of the run course.

If the hills were paved, they’d still suck, because they are steeeeeep, not because they have rocks & roots.
Most people end up “power-hiking” parts of some or all 3 of those hills after the bike anyway.
So, who cares at that point?

Chad’s opinion is colored by my favorite personal observation of the run course:
“AmZof is where open run speed goes to die.”
😈 💀

As the only two time winner of the American Zofingen short course race (backyard brag) and two time long course finisher, I can tell you it's simply the best, no matter whether you are a woman, a wuss, or whatever Murphy's Law is?

No need to tell us you're bragging, it's pretty obvious. Doesn't so much make me think you're great as make me wonder why you feel the need to post this, when you apparently don't actually have anything to add on the topic?

Harsh? Maybe
But at least put in the effort to hide your bragging among some actual useful insight or information.
