This is a bit of a weird one. I don't particularly enjoy running, I'd much rather ride my bike, but sometimes I miss the variety and spontaneity of running, not to mention the year-round opportunities to race with friends. I decided to solely focus on cycling this year and I'm going well in TTs but I am thinking of incorporating some canicross runs (puppy turns 1yo soon) into my schedule with the view to possibly doing some races towards the end of the year and maybe even another duathlon. In the past I've responded best to high(er) volume -- best performance was a 1:34 HM after 4 months of 40mpw -- as too much intensity seems to kill my legs and create niggles.
Is there an optimal way of building mileage without causing my TT performance to suffer or is it something I'm just going to have to accept? I would start with ~20 minute easy runs and slowly increase the mileage from there.
Thanks
