Mallorca - End of May Questions
Traveling to Mallorca (Port Pollensa) later this month to do some riding for a few days. This will be my first time on the island and would love to know:

-Is it worth bringing the wetsuit (warm enough and safe enough to swim in Port Pollensa?) in late May?
-Any good, must-do rides to starting from Port Pollensa? Hoping to get in a 3-4 hour ride each day. I am training for La Marmotte in July so some hills would be good but will also probably want to get in a few easier rides as well. I am renting a bike from Pro Cycle Hire.

thanks in advance,
Jack

Here are some good routes

(I am nothing to do with these guys, and haven't used them, it just saves me typing out a load of info).

I'm sure you can swim in a wetsuit in late May in PP - given the water gets up to 25degs+ over the summer.

I flew back yesterday evening. The water is already warm enough, with or without wetsuit and you can safely swim in the bay at Port Pollenca. There are many great cycling routes on good asphalt with car drivers keeping enough distance. One must-do route is the ride to Cap de Formentor in the north-east of the island, it's not hard to find from Port de Pollenca.

Have fun!

Must do rides -

Sa Colabra
Cap Fermentor
Puig Major(this is big ride from Port de P)
Coll de sa Batalla

Nice run from Port de Pollença to Cala San Vicente on trails if you are running.

Enjoy!

I was in puerto Pollenca a few weeks ago and did a bunch of rides, both hilly and flat. You can check out my strava if you want: https://www.strava.com/...es&year_offset=0 (I haven't done a lot of riding since getting back :-O) Water is warm enough that you can probably swim without wetsuit, and perfect conditions for swimming in the bay.

Others have addressed some of the rides, I would also suggest heading towards Orient, if you approach from the Alaro side you get two nice climbs heading west, then can pick up the road to head north over to Soller for the Puig climb. My wife and I were over in March, I didn't do the climb north to Soller but came in to Soller from the west then up Puig. As per the other poster, have a look at my Strava profile here, I was there 17th - 23rd March: https://www.strava.com/athletes/3417225

On the non-bike side of things, head to Alcudia for some food, the old walled city there is really beautiful and you'll get some nice seafood and local delicacies. Have a great time, it's absolutely sensational riding.

rode in pollenca for a week last year and it was the lighthouse ride (cap fermentor) that was my favourite. just a stunning, stunning road. it's not a long one but i ended up repeating it because i was so enjoyable.

definitely saw some training groups doing OWS in the bay in april, so i'm sure by May you wouldn't be alone.

i also rented from pro cycle hire and was happy - they were quite pleasant to deal with. ended up on a titanium van nicholas that rode beautifully.

enjoy!

Just wanted to post an update from the trip: Mallorca is awesome. We stayed in Port Pollensa and loved it. Sa Colabra is amazing and hard. The Cap Fermentor ride is also really cool. Coll de sa Batalla is also great. Bike rental from Pro Bike Hire was excellent. Really looking forward to coming back soon and riding more of the roads I didn’t get to chance to hit.

The Cap Formentor/lighthouse ride is my favourite on the whole island. It's got a bit of everything in it.........love that ride!
