Would that be 3 in a row for Hanson?

6:20 pace for Starky through around mile 4//

Assuming the markers are actually miles, which I never do with WTC. If we see Patrik going through those 4 in 5;20 pace, then we will know. But yes, an even paced day will lead to his best result, unless he already knows he is toast. At which point he is just hanging onto a lead as long as possible. Actual 6;20 pace is only about 20 seconds a mile slower than his best 1/2 efforts, so perhaps it feels easy to him at the moment..

Yep, Hanson's got this.

The distances are never perfect, temps are reasonable for Starky from an overheating prospective. Sunny yes, but humidity low, dew point low, and the wind is up. I have no idea what kind of run shape he is in, but seems to be reasonable and conservative compared to some of the others. Hanson can't win if Nilsson keeps this up. Should be a great 3-horse race.

Nilsson is going pretty well as well, so Hanson, Nilsson might have a good battle.

McCauley is dropping Ryf

If McCauley beats Ryf, this gives her a lot more confidence to have a great race at Kona this year. I think Ryf is holding back a bit, but still, the experience is fantastic.

For sure, great for her. I'm not sure if Ryf is the type to hold back, maybe she was not sandbagging saying she didnt have a real Ironman build yet this year.

Now she is almost matching McCauleys pace, so maybe there will be a race after all

It definitely could be a crazy finish. Ryf can pick up her pace, but McCauley is very familiar with this course and that should worth something. Would be very possible they end up sprinting against each other down the finish chute for the win.

Ryf's run form looks a little bit off. A slower turnover than usual or something.

Holy crap, McCauley's run looks amazing right now.

NEILSON IS PASSING STARKY!!!

If Starky would put down those invisible suitcases, he'd run at least 1 min/mile faster.

It is looking like Starky will probably get 4th, 3rd if he has paced ok and has a great 2nd half. But just looking at the times, he is losing at least a minute a mile to Matt Hanson, and 10 miles left with a 10 minute lead..How about a sprint finish guys for the last podium spot!!

Nilsson is a good runner. Unless he really implodes I don’t see Hanson catching him on the run. He had 11:36 on Hanson going into T2 and at mile 14.9 we was still up by 10:06.

McCauley having a good race. Time wise Ryf doesn’t look like we’ve seen in the past. But I imagine she’d love to erase that deficit and keep her win streak alive. Could be interesting in the last 6-10 miles

Cutting it down piece by piece. Should be an awesome last couple of miles.

ya, Roy stopped the bleeding at a little over 2+ minutes down, now about 1;50. Of course that could mean several things, and for each athlete. So until it gets to around a minute and the leader knows what's going on, we will have to wait and see how they both actually feel...

Anyone see how fast Jocelyn McCauley ran her first almost 3km. Her 5:28 mile pace compared to Ryf's at 6:18/mile pace. Too bad she didnt run the first ~10km so fast--roughly 2 mins faster then Ryf..she probably would have won and we would have seen a huge upset. It's proven time and again going too fast in the opening miles (km) for us Canadians costs you in the back half of the marathon.

Hats off to McCauley for giving Ryf some competition.

Ya, I think that was mistake. When she got off the bike she was really moving thru transition. I think clearly she wanted to make a statement and deliver a possible mental blow to Daniela.
