In between the sleeveless wetsuit and the skinsuit are core shorts. //

And those are also in descending order of their benefits. Sure, if you are going to be too hot in a wetsuit legal swim, and you really don't care about your time, wear wetsuit shorts and get your second or two a 100 advantage. I'm not sure they would be any less hot than a swim skin though, and you would be giving up maybe a second per 100 between those two. For me, I would always choose the full suit, drop the cap, and hope I got on feet that allowed me to work a lot less, thus creating less internal heat..

The core shorts may provide less benefit than a skinsuit for an excellent swimmer like yourself but I would put the skinsuit far behind the core shorts. I burnt up in a full wetsuit at IM Switzerland with water about 75.5 degrees ... never again. I could not have possibly picked a worse option to take given my propensity to overheat.

Looking at the forecasted weather this morning, looks like it could be borderline wetsuit legal for the pros.

If we get a torrential downpour that should really cool it down a bit I guess??

Sign posted at registration this morning said 72.X (can't remember the value of X). It was also pouring on and off.

I have only gotten really hot once, in a small half in middle of nowhere Illinois where the RD fudged it to let us wear them (it was my second tri and I didn't know any better). However, I'm probably going to wear mine on Saturday simply because I don't have a swim skin (there's not a lot of really hot water in the greater Seattle area). I guess I'll check the temp again tomorrow and see if I want to spring for a skin at the expo.

I agree with Monty that losing the cap may be the difference maker.

3, I believe.

I was sitting in Blue Door this morning and a bunch of the pros walked in and sat next to me. I was already star struck and trying not to be a dweeb when a familiar voice stated talking. I was like OH MY GOD IT’S TIM AND SHARKY.

It is DELIGHTFUL here right now. Cool breeze and low humidity. I am filing this moment away for the run on Saturday.

You should have come over to say hi. You are welcome to come swim with the team if you need a place to swim. We’ll swim tomorrow at 6am and 12pm at the Creekwood Pool.

Thank you! I would have been the most awkward person ever. Mostly due to being up since 1:30am to get here.

And I really appreciate the invite. Tomorrow is team and social obligation day or otherwise I’d be there.

No worries. Welcome to the Woodlands and good luck at the race. We’ll have practice on Friday too, if you need a place to swim as well.

72.6 this morning. It's been about 73 this week when they've measured but it rained last night.

Pro briefing they said 72.1 will take final temp 4:30am race day. Pro Race mostly likely no wetsuit AG baring something crazy will be wetsuit legal.

Just for fun go and measure the water temp on Monday. I bet it is above 76.1 Which doesn't matter at all other than dispelling the rumor that an April IMTX will "always be" wetsuit legal.

Weather is going to matter tomorrow. It will be pretty steamy the last hour for the pros and couple of hours for the top age groupers...
