Thanks for this. An after work hour on the wattbike will now be a whole lot more interesting. The hour is strangely compelling if you know the extent of the suffering that will happen.

So far, so good. But that's true of most hours 15 minutes in.

Watching it now......
I'm not trained in spotting what's good positions, but man, that just looks so right.
Thought I heard the base bar was intentionally narrower than usual since it's only used for like 15 seconds to get up to speed then just sits in the wind.
Noticing further into the ride now the following of the line has gotten worse, more touches up to red and down to the blue.

His position does look good.
Bars are narrow... but not that narrow (33 - the Brezza nano's are just 30) and with aero shapes narrow base bar probably doesn't really save *much* if anything. Looks sweet though.
In an hour a good idea just to check the box, where having big leverage/power for the start doesn't matter *as much* as in a pursuit.
Riding the black line for a "non-trackie" is really tough, especially 30+ minutes in at that kind of effort.
He's built up a pretty good bit in front of Wiggo now. He can have a bad few minutes in the last third and have some buffer.

He's slowing down... a bunch of ~16.45 laps after consistently ~16.2

Really starting to wobble now. Was at 16.1's but is floating up into the 16.4's These last 20 minutes could get real interesting.

still over 1/4 of the ride to go. Indeed slipping, but he's got enough in the bank that if he doesn't have a complete meltdown he's still going to beat the record handily.

I hid the chat the moment I saw racist comments about Usain Bolt in there. WTF people?

How about an actual update for those of us blind to the attempt? How far in, how far ahead, how much is he losing in the stretch, etc!!!

4 minutes to go - looking good. 51k down, still going 16.4's (16.5's needed for record)

Hell of a ride. Can't imagine the pain that puts him in.
Regarding his position, he is incredibly good. Spends a ton of time in the wind tunnel as well. He is also a former high level triathlete. Still swims as well.

There it is........oh man.........breaking 55km. Is this a breaking 2 type moment for cycling? There is no equivalent for the marathon breaking 2, but still.
I think all the TT folks in ST need to go out soon and attempt a personal hour workout. Just for fun. In honor of his accomplishment.

So this makes Aguascalientes the defacto headquarters of attempts now, right? Every other track is too low I think.

I think it has been for some time. Wiggins chose London for the home crowd spectacle.

Tony Rominger did 55.291 kms in Bordeaux back in '94 on a steel framed Colnago. (he may have had a little bit of pharmaceutical help with that, but still....)
