Specialized Shiv Hydration
Anyone watching IM SA and looking at Lucy Charles behind the seat bottle? WTF? Specialized are selling the new Shiv as some hydration revolution but the fact she still wants to run a rear bottle and how non aero that must be is a joke. I like what Baden Curry does to fill the rear but people still need to take bottles on course including concentrated nutrition bottles. I know this has been discussed before but I can't believe what I am seeing...

Specialized never said that the rear hydration was designed to be refilled. They said it’s enough for a half with a BTA as well.

Is it a great design? No I don’t think so. Personally I think the fuelselage was better but clearly they think not.

I don’t think she loses much aero wise having a BTS bottle either tbh.

I had the original Shiv and liked it but not a fan of this one. I gather behind her it's not huge amounts of drag but small gains and just looks shite!

What does B. Curry do?

Also, even if the new Shiv rear hydration is empty, the bike is probably faster with it on than off.

He puts a bottle in upside down to fill the reservoir.

You can see a full Specialized BTS failure collage here...

I don't think you understand you can see in the second pick how far her BTS bottle sits up behind her seat.

Didn't specialize say they designed the new shiv and rear hydration for Kona. It stands to reason that the rear bladder may be perfect for Kona but not the best option for other courses

I would say that there is a fairly good chance that most of these athletes will have 2 different types of fluid with them. I don't think the rear hydration unit caters for switching fluid types :D

I understand that and such a flaw in their design philosophy IMO. Do you use it as a non refillable in place of a BTA with just water? If you do put anything in there it will have to be flushed and cleaned pretty well after the race or any time you do that which isn't an easy process. It makes it hard to run a BTS as seen in the pictures and makes for an ugly bike... They tried to fix a non existent problem? My mins still boggles that after 10 years of the last Shiv they came up with this. I must admit the new P3X looked good out on course.
