Any tips for getting a bad knot out of my back?
I have a knot in my lower back that is seriously like the size of a finger. I got a massage last week and the masseuse said, under her breath, "wow!" Like, as in she wasn't saying "wow" to make small talk. It was a natural, uncontrollable reaction.

Are you sure she wasn’t admiring the size of your .... Larp?

Try getting a massage.

Lacrosse ball

Lie on top of it on a thin rug/carpet and roll it around until you find the spot - then apply as much pressure as you can handle and hold 30 sec.

Repeat as needed or until that bastard releases.

Dry needling. It’s the bomb. Have a professional shove a needle into it til it twitches.

It’s the new cupping but with out the massive hickey.

If you have a jigsaw at home, getcha a set of these and go to town on it. Hurts like hell but works.

Find out which muscle(s), look at anatomy book to get sense of muscle, google trigger points and follow some of suggestions before, a rumble roller, lacrosse or tennis ball, Thera cane, acumobilty tools, etc, massage....heating pad to loosen or warm up before treatment

Also why tight, are others weak causing overload, , usually more to it than one muscle.

Just be careful with spine...

MobilityWod or Upright health websites, Jill Miller etc.

Good luck

What the needling and lacross ball people said. You should expect the knot to come back, and to need to repeat the unknotting process a few times.
It is also good to attend to the flexibility and strength of the entire muscle chains those muscles are part of and are working against -- yeah, it can be a long list.

This is like right on the pelvis. Nowhere near the spine, but definitely right on the bone.

The massage should have taken care of it. Make sure it isn't a lipoma. But a lipoma would not be tender/sore, just very palpable. They are common to find in the lower back by the pelvis. Or you could have an irritated nerve causing a spasm if it is a tight and tender muscle that does not release. Massage usually won't help, only decompressing the nerve.

Get anatomy book...or ask massage therapist. My guess is quadratus lumborum, but it is an underlying muscle but runs from last rib to pelvic top. It can get overworked often because of lazy gluteus (we sit on them all day).

I am not physio or health pro....just geezer who has had every pain thru many years of basketball, soccer, tennis, running to ironman ( will try again next year) all the while with dreaded desk job. Wished the internet was around in my younger years.

I'm pretty sure I'm psychic. Was out in a run with some friends tonight and what did I find in a pavement crack? Yep, a lacrosse ball. Gave it to one of the guys. Shirley it's a sign.

"He said ON his ass, not IN his ass! "

Too late. The good news is, I stoped thinking about the pain for 10 minutes.
