latex tube question

Can I put a latex tube (Vittoria) marked for 25-28 into a 23 (Conti GP4K) tire on an ENVE 4.5 wheel? What's the downside for the mismatched size?

That's a rather wide rim. I'm sure it will be fine. Can your frame not handle a 25?

I will order some 25s, but it currently has 23s on it and I have a double puncture the other day from a deep pothole. All I have are latex tubes of that width, so just wondering if I can out them in and back to riding.

Excess tube might be easier to pinch or fold during installation. Something to watch out for.

Going the other way - I had to fix a flat and went with a small tube in a 32 tire. Lasted for 3-4 hours of riding around, then boom the seam at the valve let go a block from my place.

I think it'll be fine because the width of the ENVE will make up for it a bit. You'd have a much tougher time if you were stuffing it into a HED3 or an old Mavic hoop.

Do you mean besides the fact that ENVE recommends against using latex tubes in their clincher wheels? https://www.enve.com/...h-enve-clicher-rims/

But, to answer your question (in regards to other rims that are OK with latex), you should size the tube based on the MEASURED width on the rim, not the size printed on the sidewall. For a rim the width of the ENVE internally, the tire will "grow" in width by as much as 2mm in comparison to how large it is on a 13c or 17c width rim (what the tires are mounted on for the "printed" sidewall designation). Additionally, that particular tire you mention is known for measuring large in the first place (i.e. ~24.5mm-25mm on a 17c width rim), and on something like the ENVE, I would expect it to be as wide as 27mm when mounted...so that size of tube is actually appropriate.

A 23mm GP4k on those wide ENVES will inflate to 25-27mm. So yeah, the tube you have is perfect.
