She certainly is fast, and I'm damn impressed with her times as well as how fast Ryan is. I'd love to see some of these interviews with folks who are equally as fast, but also have families to work out logistics with. I too am a teacher, but getting to the pool every morning is completely impossible with two little ones to take care of (swimming twice a week can be a miracle!). I'd love to have more time in the day to fit in training, and I'd bet there are tons of folks in my position as well who are pretty fast, but it's hard to average 20 hrs/week of workouts when you have a family.

we all make choices.

i don't mean that negatively, simply that when you choose to have kids your kids should become #1 priority. triathlon is a hobby. period. even for most pros. although they may not know it, yet.

I hear you. Also a teacher with a family.
Also wonder how she affords to do all that. If I KQ'd tomorrow (which won't happen so no worries) I'd turn it down for the financial reasons.

20 hours a week?! Right now I am getting around 12 and could get more but cannot imagine getting to 20 while teaching and being an actual dad/husband. For swimming I get up at 4:30 and swim before my wife and daughter wake up. But I basically do not do a workout after work. It is just too hard on me and the family. When I get home I want to be available to then. Once a week I might get a bike workout or short run after work but I try to do before work and lunch. You seem to be really good at getting up early at least. Can you get to the pool and back by the time the kids wake up?

I live in the same region as her and Ryan. Super nice people the couple times I have talked to them. I don't know a thing about their financial situation, but one thing that stands out is they go to a lot of paying races. It's pretty normal to be at an event with a cash payout and see them take home money for both the male and female winner/podium. I feel like I remember an event a couple years ago where they won a bunch of airline miles (which possibly could have helped get them to Kona and back). Does $100 here and there pay for multiple IM races? No. It doesn't hurt though.
