Canyon Speedmax CF 2019
Hey girls and guys!

Since a lot of you seem to have bought the new Canyon Speedmax CF model, how satisfied are you?

Especially interesting for me are the armpads. That is the only part that I'm worried about because it seems they are pretty wide.
Anyone got any experience already with getting them narrower by changing to different pads or aerobars?

Any pics appreciated :)

Thanks!

I bought the CF 2019 too. Nice bike so far but haven't dialed in the fit that I'm happy with just yet. Getting shoulder pain.

What front end BTA hydration are people using? I'm thinking of getting the Profile FC25

I have the 2018 Speedmax CF. The stock Profile Design clip-on bars and arm rests were really wide indeed, so I switched to the USE TR2 Clip-On Chassis, which allows a much narrower elbow width. The TR2 chassis turned out to only be compatible with their carbon extensions, and not USE alu extensions though. The 2019 Speedmax CF comes with a different Profile clip-on bar though, but I'd be suprised if that bar allows such a narrow arm rest width.

I've got the FC35 and used it on the road bike with clip ons. Very functional, looks weird though but would plan using it on the speedmax as soon as I have one. The storage of the FC25 and FC35 can be removed and the bike computer mounted to the front instead of the storage. That might make a good front hydration system that doesn't look too bad.

Maybe you give it a try!

Yeah, I was thinking about the Profile Design F40 armpads. With them I think it's possible to get quite narrow as well

same situation for me, I really like the Profile Design bracket for quality and fair accessoire pricing (20€ for an additional riser set compared to 40-50 for other clip-on brands. 3T I‘m looking at you!).

so went with the F40s (see attachment), you could get them even closer/touching by flipping the cups or not running the BTA bridge inbetween.

width-wise I‘m happy now, but shape-wise I feel like I‘m missing some side stability due to the flat edges. Might go for something custom down the road.

edit: messed up the upload, picture should be visible now

Yes, the F40 armpads do look wide indeed. I can imagine keeping the arms inside without side support is not exactly comfortable, maybe even exhaustive which would be very bad indeed.

I'd so like to have a definitive answer for a good armpad setup before pulling the trigger on the Speedmax :/

Maybe the Profile Design Race armrests can help getting. Looks promising and they can also be rotated so that they're even narrower

I have the Profile Design Ergo set on my 2018 Speedmax. Love them. The Race has more curve but less adjustable.

I think I mentioned it in another thread, but the Speedmax CF gets a Profile Design cockpit update, from the T4+ clip-ons to a 35A with subsonic brackets. I haven't measured pad width capabilities (maybe when I'm back in office after holiday I can do that), but the pad stack adjustability gets much greater, as the pads can sit much lower/closer to the Canyon H30 carbon basebar than the T4+ were able to. Which is nice IMHO.

Sounds awesome! The pad width would be nice. But tbh, if it just means swapping for different armpads like the ergo or F40.. I'm all in!

Also let's talk fit maybe. A lot of pictures on the internet of the Speedmax CF seem to indicate a really comfortable position. I don't know if they are riding with the spacer but with this position it's hard to justify a tri bike vs clip ons on a road bike.

Anyone got experiences with fit options? Are aggressive low positions possible on the Speedmax CF or is it really too much of a compromise in the geometry compared to the SLX for the ambitious riders as some suggest?

I have a Speedmax CF L. I still have the spacer under the stem and have a drop of about 12-14cm from saddle to armrest pads and i have a couple spacers under the pads. Haven`t dialed in my fit yet but van easily come a bit lower. Tried to attach picture but all my pics are too large...

According to the geometry chart, I think the L size can be set up quite aggressively with a lot of drop, which is cool.

Does anybody know about storage? It looks like the 2019 now has that fairing under the top tube like the SLX. Does the CF now have storage as well?

Hey cmart,
Not a response to your question, instead I have a question of my own. Is there an update on when the SLX with disc brakes will be available?

Keen to know that as well. Would the slx with disc be released only at / after kona this year or before?

In one of Lionels recent Instagram posts it looks like his bike has a covered up disc brake on the front, either that or it's some really strange large front hub

It's an "AirHub"

The 2019 CF does not have storage. It's the cover for the seatpost clamp bolt.

Ask Ian in the Speedmax thread on here....be prepared to provide your measurements and pad numbers, then propose what you want to do to him in the thread. I am really tall and was unsure whether I could fit on the CF or SLX and he took my measurements back to the Canyon engineers and he confirmed that I can't ride the SLX so that saved me a bunch of money and heartache!!
