that was the story that got my juices flowing on triathlon. I had heard about it, but this galvanized my entry into the sport, as it was.

And just for fun, I looked up that 9 year old kid Garett Blanton who was featured on faces in the news as an all star little leaguer. He did go onto a small career in baseball, got picked in the 25th round in the early 90's, but seemed to disappear right after that. I wonder if he was subject to the SI curse, even though he was not on the cover...
