Great idea. I’ve had similar group Computrainer experiences.

I don’t know how the economics work because you can mimic the experience at home for “free” (sunk cost of subscription). It would be smart of Zwift to give cheap group licenses to LBSs to expose their product to potential new customers. Good for the LBS, because it gets people in the shop. However, there is the capital expense barrier of lots of expensive smart trainers...

A related thought is I’ve often thought that Zwift should allow groups of athletes, who know each other, to be able to set up private leagues of various formats where they can race against each other. I have a group of training buds, whom we enjoy “competing” with during our group rides. I’d be all in on a regular race with people I know, especially at this time of year!

Yes, I think you mean the new “meet-up” function, which could be used to do a league.

I’m thinking a more fully developed “league” that tracked results, had standings, etc. sorta what the various fantasy leagues do...

What about Ironman courses within Zwift similar to Computrainer’s Racermate?? Anyone know if that's available or in the works?? Got rid of Computrainer a long time ago but remember that with racermate course exchange, you could upload/download courses to preview and ride and with Computrainer studio or multi-rider setup, you could have friends join you for a preview ride on the same course. With this setup you could even race your friends virtually on the course. You could also use Best Bike Split, which would take your power data & course info to give you a power plan to target your bike split. Add the Wahoo kickr climb, and you're practically there...

Nate, from what I've found doing some research on this in the last few weeks: there are only a handful of venues and they're in Australia.

I think this would be an incredible opportunity for cycle-studios to incorporate--the problem is that it's super tech-heavy.

One of the places in Australia that I found is called "The Pain Cave" and they participate in a weekly race on Zwift called "The CHOP", which is a handicap race series (D's start first, then C's 2 min later, then B's 2 min later, then A's 2 min later.) The gym has a leaderboard for how their "live" participants finish each week and scores them, then they win stuff at the end of the "league" based on their overall score. Cool way for a local bike shop to incentivize people to come and race regularly, too with some handouts.


I think the biggest hurdle for a live studio with racing is trying to level the playing field for participants--weight handicaps based on FTP to get everyone into the same W/kg range would be a good way to equalize and let the Elite racer and the guy who started riding this year compete against each other.

I raced (and won) a GoldSprints race last week. One of the most intense bits of racing I have done in a long time.

Old school way to do it, but super fun.
