For what you want, a regular road bike or gravel bike will fit the bill.
I have a bunch of bikes, Iâ€™d be hard pressed to call any of them my â€śmainâ€ť bike. This year I was mostly on my tri bike, but that was the first time Iâ€™ve tried that and I donâ€™t think Iâ€™ll repeat that experiment.
For what I do, if I were limited to 2 bikes Iâ€™d have an road bike with clipons disc brakes and lots of tire clearance for triathlons, odd group ride, and general training, and a hardtail 29er XC oriented mountain bike with a second set of wheels with cross tires mounted to them. That combo would let me ride pretty much anywhere around here that Iâ€™m capable of riding.
