We're still catching up getting a ton of small parts to our website... but we do indeed have the angled spacer kit in stock and available for the Speedmax SLX. IIRC, they are $20 a set. For reference this is the same used by Patrick Lange in Kona last year.

To get hold of one, call our team at 833.226.9661 and you can just order it over the phone.

No bother, Karl.

We don't have visibility on when those guys will arrive. As as I understand it, the shortage is being experienced by our Germany partners as well. It's probably the simplest part of the equation, but for now, we are in a holding pattern on when the hydration brackets will arrive. I guarantee you, I will put out an APB when they are.

While everyone is asking about accessories, can you help me on how I can get a replacement cover top for the Spare Part Kit. The roads where I ride are always so bumpy, and after a few time it came off... I am using tape over for now, but it looks so ugly :(

Brad,

Thanks for starting the thread. I'm getting back into multisport after some time away, I am currently on my original P3C (2006) and am very loyal to the brand as I have both a Cervelo TT and road bike. I have been considering whether or not I want to go with the P5 of switch to the Speedmax next year. I am very interested to hear your thoughts and opinions on the two bikes as you've ridden both bikes. Some of the questions I have are:
1) which bike is lighter (I know the ST crowd will crucify me for this question due to the aero trumps weight, but i'm a smaller rider)
2) I have heard that putting together a P5 is quite involved, any differences here with the Speedmax?

Once again looking forward to your thoughts on the matter.

Eric

Hi Eric,

Sorry for the delay here on coming back to you, definitely the most popular topic is comparing the P5 to Speedmax, briefly did it above in another post, off the back of another users comparison. But will answer your questions directly.

1) I did not weigh my Cervelo before disassembling it, and did not have the same wheels with me to do an exact comparison. Wish I would have done this as it is a popular question. Need to weigh the Speedmax again, but off the top of my head believe it was ~22lbs, and that was with FLO Disc / FLO 9, no bottle cages, but had tool kit in the storage compartment (2x Co2, Tube, Multi Tool, tire lever, air chuck), as well as both the bento and integrated bottle on.

2) I believe all super bikes that have this amount of integration and "clean" setups will be a touch harder to work on and assemble/disassemble. It really depends how mechanically savvy you are. For traveling it really comes down to what case you are traveling with and then what size bike you ride, along with how much stack and how far your extensions go out. All of those variables can dictate the amount of disassembly you have to do. If you are able to leave your base bar on with your case, and are running the "V-Bar" on the P-5, then I would give the head nod to the P-5 in ease of tear down and re-assembly. If you have to take off the base bar, then the head nod goes to the P5 as it would only be 4 bolts, to the P-5's 7 bolts. Think we go back and forth on this a bit in the above posts, but not positive. Definitely something I will cover in my P-5 vs. Speedmax blog whenever I get it up.

Lastly, the biggest selling point in my opinion is the Speedmax was built with integration in mind, where the P-5 you need to decide what after market integration you want to use, some good options out there, but nothing nearly as clean as what the Speedmax has done.

Good luck with whatever direction you go in, I was on Cervelo for a long time and was always happy with the bike(s) I rode. I am super happy with the Canyon as well, and really like all the integration.

Thanks again.

That's good to know that you have a shipping and delivery date. Fingers crossed for you. Let me know if it show on time, or doesn't... it's a helpful bellwether for me to determine our USA expectations on arrivals, etc.

Agreed... it's why I stick my nose in here every so often to see what y'all are up to. ;-) We will get to a point where we have all pieces/parts online, but the USA operations are truly operating as a startup, so we have growing pains with fleshing out the site. We'll get there... but glad to have the forum here to let y'all know what we've got on. And really glad we have the parts for you!

Jay, just wanted to let you know that I received the two spacer kits for my SpeedMax that I ordered. Ordered them on the 3rd after seeing your post that they had them in stock; and received them on the 9th. Customer service was great.
Thanks again.
Mike

p.s. If you get any skinny on when they have the rear seat post mounted bottle cages would appreciate it.

Group,

I'm pretty embarrassed, but I can not figure out how to increase the pad stack to the max stock potential. I can only get 1 20mm spacer and one small spacer + the bars on. What am I doing wrong? Can't find any content, probably because others aren't having issues.

Any help would be appreciated, super frustrated.

Thank you!

You should be able to get 2x "big ones" and 1x "small one", that is what I had done to reach max stock stack height. It mentions it in the user manual, don't worry I missed it the first time as well ;)

From base bar it should go (bottom to top)
bolt connecting all of the below (longest one it comes with, female version)
base bar
2x shim/washer
big spacer
2x shim/washer
big spacer
2x shim/washer
little spacer
2x shim/washer
Extension holder
2x RED shim/washer
Switch Plate
Bolts connecting all of the above (longest one it comes with, male version)
Arm Pads
Bolts from arm pads into switch plate

I just looked at mine assembled and I believe the above is correct, someone correct me if I am wrong.........

The number one question I have gotten since switching to the Canyon Speedmax CF SLX is "How does it compare to the Cervelo P5-6?" I wish it were that easy to just say one is better than the other, but honestly if I put a blindfold on you and had you ride 2 brand new bikes, I really doubt you would know the difference. That being said, there are some significant differences between the 2 bikes, so I will try to highlight those below.

First off, to be completely transparent here, I am "sponsored/partnered" with Canyon USA/North America. I did PAY for my bike, although with a discount. So some may think this is a biased post, and I get that. I have been transparent in everything I do, and with every company I have worked with/partnered with/been sponsored by, I have started off as a paying customer beforehand.

Full review/thoughts can be found here: https://www.bw-tri.com/single-post/P5vsSLX

I'm considering buying this bike. My big open question is traveling with it. Can anyone on here comment on what's involved to pack it into a standard soft case like the Evoc Bike Bag Pro, which is what I have? How many bolts? Do you have to do anything crazy (like rerun cables)? How long does it take (first time, and then after you've done it a couple times)? Etc....

I don't really have store space for a big hard case like the Premier and don't really want to drop another $1000 on one of those crazy looking Scions that allow you to keep basebars mounted. I'm cross-shopping the SLX with the BMC TM01, where the whole front-end easily comes off thanks to their innovative "brake booster" setup. Concerns about traveling with the SLX are probably my biggest reservation (with the recall tire-clearance issue my biggest reservation on the TM01, which is arguably a bigger issue).

From my blog post above
@BW_TRI wrote:
Traveling- This really comes down to your bar setup and what bike bag you have, or plan on getting. With the P5, I was running the "v-bar" which was super easy to remove (4 bolts), and then would need to remove the base bar (3 bolts). That left the base bar "flat" and I would strap it to the frame, along with removing the front brake. I was then packing it into the EVOC Bike Travel Bag(Gen 1) w/ stand, which is a phenomenal case.

With the SLX, I originally planned on continuing to use my EVOC. BUT, due to the amount of stack I run, it started to become a bit complicated, but not impossible. It just meant that I would have to remove the base bar (4 bolts), then remove the arm pads (4 bolts, so you can access the spacers/extensions), then remove the spacers (stack)/extensions (4 more bolts, super long threads). So it made the job of packing it a bit longer and with the amount of travel I do, I was looking for something a bit easier.

I ended up getting the Premier Bike Box. Though it is quite pricey at $699, I am really happy with it. It holds 3 wheels, does not require you to move the base bar, is a hard case and has room for other "stuff" as well. Now I just remove the arm pads, spacers(stack)/extensions. With my extensions being quite long, I am not able to just loosen and slide them back, but I know others that do that with their Scicon Bags (although I am not a fan of these bags). It just depends how long yours are and what size frame you have.

For the Evoc and SLX, it comes down to how much "stack"/spacers you are running. If running the bare minimum, then it would be quite simple, 4 bolts to remove the base bar, flip it to the side and strap it to the bike. I traveled with it like this 1x, but as mentioned with the amount of stack I was running I just didn't feel comfortable with it like that. Sure, I could have removed the bar as mentioned above, then removed the spacers/pads/extensions completely and then used the EVOC, but that would be more around 40-50mins disassembly/reassembly time, to right now I have it down to 20-30mins max w/ the Premier Bike Box, and at the amount I travel that is a big difference in my opinion and was worth the switch. Don't get me wrong the EVOC is a great bag/case!

Thanks a ton! Agreed, anythign near an hour of packing/unpacking is a PITA. But what you described is not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I though I read somewhere that it was damn-near impossible to pack.

I'd be running close to max stack (635mm, stack range for Medium is 530-650), which does have me wondering if the bike will fit at all (or handle odd with so much stack), but I'm thinking I might just order the CF SL and SLX and just keep whichever bike fits better. The fit problem with the CF (stack 605-692) is it doesn't give me much room to go lower as my flexibility improves ( I'm coming back from a knee surgery), plus I like having the "best".

Guess it depends if you consider yourself mechanically inclined or not, I don't think it is that bad, but I do pretty much all of my own wrenching.

And obviously the more you do it the more proficient you become at it.

I finally decided to go with the Scicon Triathlon version. Not my 1st choice TBH, but I am not willing to spend 2 hours sweating my ass off dismantling my bike at home and then going through the same BS in some strange foreign country that if anything goes wrong, I'm screwed. (I'll be racing mostly in Asia for the rest of the season)

I used to have the Biknd Jetpack for my P5 and I loved it. The Scicon does not require me to do anything on the bike, so I'll be using that. Wish me luck, because it looks like the bike is traveling completely naked.

Buy some pads from Albo Pads. They're easy to wrap around the tubes, stays, etc., on your bike to protect it while in the Scicon bag. I never fly my bike without them.

I've had about 10 flights with Canyon Speedmax CF SLX (M size) and Evoc Travel Bag (non-Pro edition) and everything is good.
I remove the aerobars and spacers (but don't touch any cables) and clip them to the frame with a duct tape. Also I store all my clothes, wet suit, shoes etc inside.

It takes about 30 minutes I guess. The most difficult part is the aerobars and spacers.

Awesome! Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks Nick.

Also -- on a totally unrelated note -- what tire wheel combos are folks running. Will HED Jet Blacks (21mm internal diameter) with 25mm GP4000s tires fit? Doesn't look to be a ton of room in the rear.
