Best bike GPS that pulls TP workouts
My Garmin Edge 520 is on its last legs and with other newer devices on the market I'm thinking of replacing it.

The main thing I want is one that can seamlessly pull workouts from Training Peaks to the device. Has anyone found one that doesn't require you to rebuild the workout either in TP or other software? Even with the Garmin, I have to rebuild them in Garmin Connect as I don't think my coach creates his in TP using the structured workout builder.

Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, so of the products I'm looking at are:

  1. Wahoo Elemnt https://www.wahoofitness.com/devices/bike-computers
  2. Lezyne http://www.lezyne.com/products-gps.php
  3. Bryton http://www.brytonsport.com/#/products
  4. And of course the new Stages which is about to be released (this is the current one: https://stagescycling.com/...-dash-gps-head-unit/ )

Thanks

Is this for workouts on the indoor trainer or mainly outdoors?
If indoors, what trainer and training software do you use to control the trainer?
I would be interested in how others find uploading to a bike computer to run a workout. My coach puts mine into my TPs and I just use TrainerRoad desktop software to design the ride and upload to the iPad. Takes me about 2-3 mins to program the ride in and then upload it, I normally do all the weeks ride at the start of the week and am good to go. Gives me a lot of flexibility to tweak aspects as needed etc. I don't use a bike computer at all on the trainer.....TR just uploads it all to TP for me.

All outdoors.

I recreate them in Garmin Connect which isn't that hard but would be awesome if it were seamless.

If I’m reading your query correctly, if you download the Connect IQ Training Peaks app for your Edge 520 it will do this for you.

You have to ‘request’ it by opening the app and having your phone connected by Bluetooth, but I build workouts in TP, then it has a nifty interface for you to follow the workouts on the screen.

The only drawback I have noticed is that you don’t get your normal data screens, but I haven’t found that to be a deal breaker for me.

If your tp workouts aren't in workout builder, then i don't understand the question... There is nothing to "pull from training peaks".

I'm assuming your coaches workouts are just text descriptions in TP?

For indoor workouts, as long as the workout is built into TP workout builder, Zwift will automatically pull the workout from training peaks. No need to program each individual workout yourself. I do this on almost all of my trainer rides right now.

To the OP, the best way that I know of to do this for outdoor rides is the TrainingPeaks IQ App on the Garmin device. I personally have never used it though but my understanding is that it will pull that days workouts from TP (assuming it was built in the TP workout builder).

OK I understand now. My workouts are text so it won't work.

Now, looking for other devices (other than Garmin) that do this too.

If you build a workout in TP, you can export that workout to your computer by pressing the export button on the workout builder page to the right of the "reset workout" button or on the summery page just below the "analyze" button.

You can then drop that file into the workout folder on your garmin

Curious question: It sounds like you have a fair investment in the Garmin platform by way of already created workouts. Is there a reason you are looking for NON-garmin options?

Note that I create my structured workouts using Training Peaks Workout Builder, so that I am NOT tied to the Garmin platform....with the exception of swims because (my understanding is that) Garmin hasn't released the Swim Workout FIT file format to allow TP to work. That said, I've been perfectly happy with my 920xt, and don't know why I would switch AWAY from it.

My dad has a Bryton Ryder...he's had lots of trouble with it.

Hi Tom,

Yes, I have lots of Garmin products, but this Edge 520 is developing dead areas of the screen so I'd like to get a new device. And with the excellent interfaces of the Wahoos, in particular, I know there are more user-friendly options out there.

I'm not tied to Garmin Connect for my bike rides (though I am for my Fenix) and could just create them in TP. Wahoo can deal with that like Garmin.

I've had problems with pretty much every Garmin I've ever owned and am ready to try a new brand.
