I remember reading that a maths prof, (from Princeton?) memorized pi out to 15,000 digits. For some reason I thought that was cool and set a goal to memorize the first 1,000 digits. (Yeah, I am a lot of fun at a party.) I was hoping to have it done by today but have fallen short at 850. Probs by Memorial day.

maybe 22 trillion digits is just a bit of overkill. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory uses only 15 digits of pi for its highest-accuracy calculations for interplanetary navigation. Heck, Isaac Newton knew that many digits 350 years ago. “A value of π to 40 digits would be more than enough to compute the circumference of the Milky Way galaxy to an error less than the size of a proton,” a group of researchers wrote in a useful history of the number.

I'll bet Dr. Tigerchik could handle that with ease

It's being reported that e feels overlooked, ignored, neglected. Poor e, every year February 7 passes uneventfully while e waits hopefully for recognition and fame. And every year, e has to suffer in silence while the world celebrates pi day on March 14. To add to the indignity, pi even gets additional recognition on 22/7 in some places. How unfair is that?

e hates pi. Even though they're often seen together, the relationship is complex.

My high school pre-calc teacher memorized it to some ridiculous length. I can't recall how many digits but it was well over a thousand.

e eyes pi, huh?

Yes, even though it's always a minus. They have a singular relationship; sometimes it seems like they're poles apart.

Their problems may seem infinite, but I bet the friction in their relationship could be transformed to zero with a judicious application of an Euler.
