Pogies/Bar Mitts

Are the bar mitt neoprene similar to wet suit neoprene?

This might be a crazy idea, but i have an 8 year old xterra wetsuit I have not used in 5 years. I'm thinking of cutting it up and sewing it into bar mitts. Save me a bunch of money and waste at most an hour of my time. To get over the handle bars I'll need some velcro or add a zipper.

I'd think that would work fine. Back in the college we would use old wool socks for cold mornings for rowing. Of course there are fancy pogies, but thick wool socks worked quite well.

Personally, I like the lobster claw style gloves for riding in the cold. I generally wear a pair of base gloves then the shell.

Yes! You could absolutely make your own and zippers (while expensive) are neat, just make sure you have some sort of a vent.

In the past we'd use old milk jugs and those ripstop fedex envelopes - just something to keep the wind off your hands.

I made some out of neoprene years ago for kayaking. Worked great. Wetsuit glue and velcro.
