I can't take the radio, need something to listen to in the car. Anyone listened to something good recently?

I have found that “deep” reads (complex stories, flowery language, etc.) are difficut to follow while driving. I tried listening to some TC Boyle while in the car and I would space out and miss too much.

The very best stuff we listened too, and this is confirmed by Mrs. Duffy and Duffy Jr., is Clive Custler’s “Dirk Pitt” series.

Brainless spy novels with lots of action.

Think James Bond but “Murica!!!!”

Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch series, mostly murder/detective stuff)
David Baldacci (I like his newer stuff better. Will Robie / Amos Decker / John Puller, mostly action/detective type stuff)
Nelson DeMille (John Corey series is great, FBI terroist type stuff, but the main character is a sarcastic smart-ass get the girl type)

Anything by Stuart Mclean generally. He had an incredible knack for telling stories.

But more specifically anything by Stuart Mclean with Dave as the protagonist. Dave cooks the turkey is priceless.

You can also do podcasts, which are nice because they are free. I'm listening to Mike Rowe's (Dirty Jobs fame) and the Freakanomics guys.

Of course you can get them from the library as well, but I know mine doesn't have great options.

I don't think I can sync my phone with the car sound system. Although I could just listen with headphones I suppose. Might do that, I have a ton of podcasts to listen to.

Like Duffy said, light reading (listening) is a must while driving. The Janet Evanovitch series (1 for the Money), etc., are great.

I like Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series. He is a great story teller and they are pretty funny. They are great for long drives.

I. Love Connolly and DeMille(John Corey series). People keep telling me to read Baldacci but I still haven't.

You may like Robert Crais - Elvis Cole and Joe Pike private eye series of books. I love them.

The original BBC Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy radio play. Super-fun 30 minute episodes that aren't too mentally taxing.

The BBC radio plays for The Hobbit and The Lord of Rings were great too.
