To get their name in the news. (I used to do this for a living). You commission a study, get some snappy headlines out of it that get picked up by the media, and your name is everywhere for pretty cheap.

I don't doubt it. The flight and cabin crews on the daily Lufthansa flight we do security on are all very, very relaxed (not to mention that many of the FAs are nicely pleasant on the eyes ;-).
