Ironman Mont-Tremblant 2017
Decided to sign-up this morning (did the past two years). Who else is in for 2017?

I know there's been some debate over the no passing zones (originally I thought it was only Duplessis). For those who did the 70.3, how was your experience?

I'll be at IMMT. I did MT 70.3 this year and had no issues with the two no passing zones (Montee Ryan across a bridge and Duplessis after the turnaround). Both zones are well marked. I made sure to pass anyone close to me prior to entering the no passing zones which prevented any need to check speed through these areas. I suppose if you are in caught up in a peleton, of which I saw many, your experience could be very different.

A buddy and I are in for our first IM branded race...

Seems like the above post about the passing zones makes sense-pass if you are close before the zone... It seems like at this point people are worried about a very small portion of a long race!

Saw that report this morning, very sad. I believe that is the fast curvy descent coming down from Lac Superior around the 75-80km mark of the loop.

I went by the scene of the accident about 15 minutes after it happened. The accident occurred on the way up Duplessis about 200 meters past the roundabout that leads to the casino (near the parking / right before the first down hill) and not on the way down. It was truly horrific passing next to the car, seeing the blood and the crushed bike. I had this on my mind for the rest of my ride... Condolences to the family and friends of the victim. Be careful out there.

So it was on one of the uphill sections? The report kind of makes it sound like the cyclist ran into the back of the SUV...

To be more precise, it was on the beginning of the "out" section of the out and back, but not on an uphill. It occured on the rolling section at the beginning of the Duplessis segment of the race. The guy must've been around 30kph and I heard he ran into the back of an immobilized car that was in the middle of the road letting other vehicules in/out of the Parking.

As I said in my previous post, about 200m past the roundabout.

I'm in with a bit of an injury (IT band) but i've made the decision to to it. The marathon will be survival mode.

Question for those that have done it and IMLP.... which bike leg is "easier", LP or MT? I have heard the run at Tremblant is flatter but i'm wondering about the bike, the profile seems pretty tough.

I say IMMT is easier, I did IMMT last year, I have not done LP but the bike in my opinion was relatively easy, all the hills are on the last 10k of the course (2 loops) of the (Duplesis). The run was relatively flat with some hills.

Thanks! LP has that climb to Whiteface from mile 27ish to 56 that's tough and steady... is there something like that in MT or just the last 10k? If the latter then it sounds manageable.

Just the last 10k of each loop is where you will do some real climbing but they are short punch type climbs and not sustained hills that LP would have

There will be plenty of people out riding some of the course. I never found it not to be unsafe while getting in those last few race prep miles. I tend to do the Chemin Duplessis route so there are no surprises (new pot holes etc). Just head left when heading out of the village.

It will be my second... training has been a bit of a dumpster fire of late as life has gotten in the way, but I plan on enjoying myself and having an awesome day. I'm hoping to get out and at least ride scheming Duplessis Thursday or Friday afternoon. IMLou was my first last year and I found it incredibly helpful to ride the loop beforehand. Chemin Duplessis seems to be the most difficult part of this course so I'd like to get out and play with target power, rpe, etc.

I can't believe this race didn't sell out. It sold out in 2014 & 2015. I guess there aren't a lot of 1st timers anymore.

I rode the Chemin a couple times before the race in 2015 and was really glad I did...you can really haul on the way back in if you conserve your momentum.

...maybe because it's not an "EASY COURSE" and could be the reason IMMD is still "alive".

Im surprised it doesnt sellout as well. I've done a few IMs at diff locations now, and Tremblant ranks up there as the best venue (multiple hotels/restaurants/stuff for the family to do/fair and honest course/great race production). The exchange rate is favorable to the usd too. We have made it one of our family vacation destinations.

Looks like about 2000 people registered. Agee it is a great location. Our family loves it as well. Are you trying the new Tonga Lumina thing they have? We are going Monday night.

I wonder what capacity is for IM MT? Rolling start, closed highway, multiple hotels...Pretty sure they kept the first years numbers low just to be under control and provide a great race. I'm sure they could handle around 3000 racers now if they wanted to.
