Aero bar bottle for trek speed concept
Hey all- I am looking for a recommendation for an aero bar bottle for a trek speed concept. I currently just have a bottle cage there, but I would like something that has a straw and is refillable. Anyone like one or the other? Profile design maybe?

I use a regular cage there, and put a xlab torpedo bottle in it. It is refillable. I use a little piece of velcro wrap around the bottle/cage to ensure it doesn't eject on rough roads.

I'm also a standard bottle in the BTA position user.

Having used other solutions in the past (Shiv with fueselage), Torhans aero bottles w straw, Profile design aero bottles w straw, I switched back to standard Bottle BTA for 2 reasons:

1 - Mono sys on Trek doesn't allow for a Torhans or similar
2 - Pretty much every one of them either rattled or spilt or were a nuisance and not realiable

And overall having switched back, I'm happy with my decision. There's enough aid stations to throw a bottle away and take on a new one. I can refuel in aero position with standard bottle and zero rattling or issues or spilling.

Not really a lot in it but personal preference.

The only thing that would make me change now would be to a fully integrated system like the Scott where it's part of aerobars/cockpit and just has a foldable straw etc. Very integrated and slick.

I've used the Xlab Torpedo for three seasons on my 2015 SC. Works great. Bolts right on, and I have zero issues with rattles or it not being secure.

I have mine in the torpedo cage that came with it, but I have seen the gorilla cage used as well on my friend's SC

I've ejected two Profile Design Aero HC bottles. Split both bottles. I have yet to get a new system, but am considering the XLab Torpedo. I would not recommend the PD Aero HC. It requires a plastic clip to secure (which is easily lost) and it's pain to fill and "balance" when It's not in the cage. Does not have a plug or cap for the straw (so it can spill and spray when riding over rougher terrain). The Aero HC was also not narrow enough for my new Tri bike's Aero bars (also PD!) so I'm looking at other options.

I use the Torhans Aero 30 on my first gen 9 series. It worked really well with my original, mid-near stem. The trailing edge of the bottle was almost touching the front of the fork. I have since switched to the low-far stem which pushes the bottle out away from the fork an inch or two. As I've been working to lower the pads I'm running into some clearance problems between the bottle and tire, and then the Garmin tray wedging/rattling between the aerobars. There is a good amount of mounting flexibility with the bottle though.

I do like the Aero 30 in general though. I added the CeeGees sponge and haven't had any splashing problems since.

I got the speefil A2 with the SC adapter as well. Fit perfect and I have a garmin mount right in front. All nicely in line, but I had to adjust/cut the front straw so it wouldn't hit my face.

I tried to find a solution for the straw, ended up flipping for the (overpriced IMO) Speedfil cable retractor.
It's working out great though, so I guess money well spent...

I have the xlabs torpedo on mine also. I did notice it tried to slide out a little on a rough ride. I found taking an old rubber garmin mount band (big o-ring) and running it from the staw mount to the bottom of the cage kept any movement from happening, so as a previous person said a Velcro strap would do the same thing.

Hi tyme,

Do you have the black spacer on the back cage screw by chance? This should prevent it from sliding forward!

Ok! Yeah the back cage screw should have a black spacer underneath the bolt head. This raises the bolt head up and into the groove on the underside of the bottle - essentially acting as a lock.

If you don't have it - I'd be happy to send one out to you to get that fixed.

Sorry took awhile to respond. Yeah mine does not have that spacer under the bolt head, and it is not with the spare/extra parts for the kit, so it may have been missing. I admit I did not thoroughly look through the parts list when it cam in.

The Speedfil works great. Also have the Garmin quarter mount on top of the cage, which works well for my Garmin 1000.

I bought the Speedfil z4+/A2 bundle 2 months ago for my 2013 SC 7.8 and have not been disappointed. Easy to fill, doesn't leak (even on bumpy roads) and you can use the z4 cage with any water bottle if you are doing and IM and decide to not use the A2.

No worries! Then that is definitely causing it to slip! Send an email to warranty@xlab-usa.com with your address and Trent will get a spacer out to you. You simply put it underneath the back cage screw head (between the screw head & the inside of the cage) and it acts as a lock for the bottle.

There is a long groove located on the underside of the bottle which the screw will lock into.

I originally had the bontrager bta system, swapped out the bottle cage and fastened it to the attachment that came with the bontrager system and threw the xlab torpedo bottle in it. It has been secured further by a screw/Velcro. Used it yesterday and it is solid as a gd rock.

I'd agree it's super solid, and there were zero issues until I rode at Buffalo Springs 70.3. First decent, it popped out going over a bridge bump. In fact my entire cockpit came loose from the terrible roads. I talked to 3 others with SCgen2 and all had the same issues.
No matter how tight it feels, tape it down. I'll be doing this moving forward. Not worth the stress of no water for 10+ miles.

Good to hear this feedback on this particular bike. Will give this to our engineers. We have a monobar here, but no bike to test. We have a variety of test bikes, but no Trek unfortunately.

If I think about it I will take a picture on my bike of how it looks, and post it in the next few days, so you can see how it fits on my Trek SC.
