I was just about to post this story. Well, I'm a little shocked but not surprised at the suicide. I followed this story closely as it just amazed me how someone as successful as Hernandez could go from hero to zero. I guess its one thing to commit murder, but to go from an NFL star to spending your life in prison is another. I guess I feel somewhat sorry for his daughter, but at the same time, I think he did everyone a favour, including himself, for just putting an end to a pathetic existence and tragic nightmare.

Wasn't he just found not guilty or am I mixing up stories here?

He was found not guilty on two other murder charges

He was doing life for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd

Yesterday, or Monday, Michelle McPhee while on a local (Boston) sports show stated that the reason for the first murder was that Odin Lloyd knew that Hernandez was gay and he was talking about it. The radio show had a former inmate (a regular caller) on who claimed to speak with Hernandez yesterday and he was distraught with the news. Said that gangs don't tolerate homosexuality and that it would be trouble for him in prison... Not sure I buy any of it, but that constituted 90% of today's commute.

I guess the Life part of Thug Life didn't live up to his expectations.

Hopefully the families he destroyed will sleep easier tonight.

Good for him. He did what the state was afraid to do.

While I hope that, I wonder if they do. He took a coward's way out, which is what he was really. Does that death pacify the families, or does his long time suffering in prison provide more comfort. I don't know and hope I am never in a position to find out.

I also think it's probably just hard to be a celebrity in prison, especially one whose life was about physical toughness. I'd imagine lots of people would want to take a run at him to take him down a peg or boost their own cred. News said he wasn't in gen pop when he hanged himself - can't imagine solitary confinement at MCI Shirley did anything good for his mental state.

On the way into work this morning the local news radio station had a legal analyst on who said there is precedent in Massachusetts for conviction abatement. John Salvi (Brookline abortion clinic mass murderer - committed suicide months after conviction) and John Geoghan (pedophile priest - murdered by fellow inmate after conviction) both had their convictions abated after review by the state supreme court. It would be a shame for Odin Lloyd's family to have to go through this once again.

We should offer more opportunity to inmates to let them chose their way out.

Just for the record (so you can keep your streak of disagreeing with me alive) I'd have executed him. Same outcome but different means.

Weirdest thing is the timing. He was JUST acquitted on the double murder. His lawyer, Jose Baez, just got done saying that he thinks Aaron will eventually get out of prison and that acquittal was the first step in that direction. Why now? It's bizarre, but so has been this entire story.

Pretty sad all around, I won't bemoan his death but I also won't celebrate it. He was a phenomenal athlete but an idiotic, morally corrupt human. It's a shame that his family, friends, teammates, whoever really cared for him couldn't find a way to help steer him in the right direction.

Sad but good. Why will an autopsy and investigation take place when the cause of death is known?

More on the abatement process, would also invalidate any civil proceedings against him. Basically giving the finger to the victim's families on the way out:

I agree. There are thousands of ways he still could have made a positive mark on the world.

I agree. Doubt it helps the families of his victims but they will have their own thoughts on that. Doesn't bring anyone back.
