Delta Sonic System (XLAB)

Anybody still using the XLAB Delta Sonic system? Has there been any improvements to how the system integrates into the seat post? Or is Cervelo and XLAB still in denial with past inherent flaws?

Thanks!

You'd have to expand on what you think the flaws are...I run one on my P2 and has worked perfectly. I bought it last August and unaware of any updates since then, but Candice is usually on here to help with any issues just reach out to her and she'll help.

The problem I have with it is that they say it's compatible with the Pn 1.1 but it's not. I have the XL version and it doesn't clear my seat. For what they're charging for a stainless steel bar you'd think they'd get this right. Maybe Candice can help me? Last time I emailed her about a flawed straw and got no response. As with most companies they are more inclined to reply via public forums. I should add I love they're torpedo, and bags but not there customers service.

In the past the aluminum holder would crack through the carbon of the seat post. IMO, the washer needed to have more surface area (an elongated slotted washer design would probably have been ideal). I am certainly not an N=1 with this-others have had this issue. I am curious to know if there has been some design updates.

Cheers,
G

I've never had those issues so not sure I can help with that and always got a response from Candice same day so I'd say try again if you still need help. I don't know her personally just have dealt with her via email.

My Delta Sonic XL cracked the carbon seatpost of my P5 Six after about a year of usage. I switched to the Delta 425 and never looked back.

We did actually make an improvement to the Delta Sonic. We started including this clamp in all Delta Sonic and Delta Sonic XL models. This adds more material as you mention in your other post. If you have one of these models, I am happy to send you out a clamp free of charge to help stabiliize it.

Note, technically this clamp is only necessary for Cervelo seatposts, but if you have say a Scott, BH or another brand, you can use the clamp for peace of mind. We have not seen any other damage on other brands that have this 10mm rail seatpost.

Since introducing this clamp, we have had 0 issues with this clamp on there.

Sorry about the no response - how did you email me? Normally I answer same day. In future, you are more than welcome to give us a call, we are here Monday through Friday 8:30am - 5pm PST or you can DM me here on Slowtwitch. I try to make myself available as much as possible!

I am on here because I love the passion everyone has for triathlon. I happen to get questions on this forum which I answer, but we also get many inquiries each day via emails as well. Again I am sorry your email had no response and I would like to know how you reached out to see if we have a missing link somewhere.

Candace,

I shelved my Sonic because of it cracking through my NP2 post (been using my Delta 400). I would like to give the Sonic another go. Can I get you to stick one of these new washer/brackets in the mail?

Thanks,
G

Candice,

I have a Cervelo P3 and I bought the Delta Sonic. It tore the seat post rendering it useless. Cervelo will not warranty the seat post extremely frustrated. I have an Adamo Prologue saddle. What do you recommend for a rear carrier as a replacement. I love the concept of the Delta Sonic but if I had done more homework I would have found this is a common issue as Cervelo happily pointed out. I am not psyched about paying for another carrier plus paying to replace the seat post. Anyway you can help me?

Thanks!

Hi Jetspeed,

It is a common problem - for Cervelo seatposts and before our fix I might add. The same 'rail' system they have is used by many other brands however the only failures of seatposts have been Cervelo ones unfortunately.

In regards to our own 'fix', we have made a stainless steel clamp that goes on top of the rail. This adds more material support to the overall system. Since this clamp, we have had 0 issues.

If you are willing, please email me direct and we can figure out a solution that you are happy with and I do appreciate your willingness to stick with our brand!

Candice

I need your email address. Also I'm trying to solve this problem before this upcoming weekend any chance of getting the fix ASAP? Love Xlab but this was disappointing. I understand everything is not perfect but I trust a company that is willing to assist when the product has issues.

I was looking at it as well for my NP3 but after the reports that it cracked a Ritchie post, I bought a Tririg Beta system. While it is ridiculously priced, it works like a charm.

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment
