My rear brake is a little gummed up. LBS is recommending I swap it out for something. Is there any benefit of putting a TriRig Omega up under there? Does anyone use them for rear brakes on their Transition? Seems like it might be a bit too much of an investment for that location.

I'm having a super hard time finding a replacement fork bumper pad (right side, specifically) for my Transition.

I'm putting this in the Mafia thread in hopes that one of you guys may have an extra one laying around in your garage or bike shop.

I have a tririg omega for the rear brake and it works great. The OEM brakes are pretty annoying to work with and my rear brake would always get gummed up. The TriRig design is super simple and works well. I'm looking to replace my front brake as well.

Been meaning to post some pictures for a while. This was at IM Boulder. Not the best pictures but better than nothing. About a month out before the race I switched out the factor T2 base bar for a Svet Zero. I think it really cleaned up the front end a bunch. Would really like to get a Tririg stem or something similar to great rid of the brake hanger on the front. Issue with this is having a stem long enough as the Tririg is shorter and my pads are about as far out as they can go with the current setup.

great looking setup here! i have the same frame and have been toying with painting it to breath some life into it. but also not so sure i like the frame anymore partially cause i absolutely hate my front end. have the same basebar. good to know the tririg brakes work here and i can clean things up a bit. think i'll move forward with painting my rig!

Are you running front brake cable housing all the way down to the tririg brake? why? Aren't you using the headset spacer with integrated cable-stop?

In general (Please comment dear fellow Transitioners):
I still think we are not giving away too much with that frame (assuming a clean setup).
The only thing that looks pretty outdated is the fork with its very shallow blades.
Has anybody tried getting a more aero fork to work with the Transition?

I haven't tried to replace the fork but I did look into getting the fins on the down tube removed a couple years back to make the frame UCI compliant. It proved to be more of a hassle than I expected but I would guess it is a pre-requisite to changing the fork. The clearance between the fork and fins is very close and I doubt many other forks will just fit into place.

As for aerodynamics I think the Transition can be grouped in with older P3s which is to say if you set up correctly its very close to modern top-end bikes. To go one step further I think Specialised has still not updated the Shiv Tri because they haven't found a way to make the bike any faster. Its no surprise to me that the Shiv TT shares more in common with the Transition than the Shiv Tri like horizontal dropouts and custom brakes that make the bike more of a hassle to wrench. In launching the Shiv Tri Specialised created a bike that was easier to live but in doing so they compromised all out aero. This leaves them with a dilemma. Do what Cervelo did and launch an ultra expensive super-bike which is only potentially faster than cheaper models if you are carrying a kitchen sink? or do leave the models as they are and get panned for not having a 'modern' bike?

Hey Guys

I just picked up a 2011 Transition frame off Ebay. Unfortunately the seller did not send it with a seatpost wedge/clamp. Does anyone out there happen to have one?
I know it's a long shot. If I can't find one I will be sending it back.

If I can get one then I will be after some brakes also.

In terms of brakes they were made by TRP for Specialized and I’m 95% sure they are these: https://trpcycling.com/product/t920/
If I was paying for them though I would buy TriRigs with the appropriate adapter. TriRig will know what you need if you email them.

The seatpost wedge will be much harder to come by. I’m not sure which part you are missing but the main part should buy glued the frame. This means you are really looking for a trashed frame set for a replacement.

I know the whole wedge was available from Specialized but it's no longer in stock. So yeah pretty much looking for a damaged frame to salvage parts from.

The brakes I believe would be the TRP 922 https://trpcycling.com/product/t922t922-1/ as it is for a post mount and not direct mount. But they are pretty expensive, so yes Tri rig is probably a better option for up front at least.

So sorry....had that wedge in my tool box for about a year after I got a new bike. Finally tossed it as I was cleaning up last spring.

Not sure in your area, but have two shops in Florida have been in service for 50+years and may have an extra part laying around.
The one here in Lakeland is like a hoarder and keeps tons of old stuff.

Try Bent's Cycle in Lakeland or Mack's Cycle in Miami

Call them and ask....maybe they have something left over, laying around.

Other shops in the US may too, but these old tyme shops are notorious for holding on to weird parts.

Hi there

I have broken my routing cable holder for my back wheel breaks. Did someone have a spare one from a broken frame? It is the small piece at the bottom of the frame
It is really annoying I did the Cairns Ironman without back wheel brake...

Thank for your feedback. I have already requested to specialized but they do not have a spare one as they do not make this frame anymore.

Hope that someone will have a good idea for me

i have been thinking about replacing that stop with a section of linked housing like this https://jagwire.com/...-link-road-brake-kit and mounting one of the Tririg brakes because it has the stop built in. I have been thinking about this for aero and just plain tinkering reasons, but it might help you out.

I am currently rebuilding my transition Pro and have bought a 52/36 front end. Reading above it appears that the 36 won't work without rubbing.

I am considering your setup of removing the 36t chainring and just running a 1x setup.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the rear cassette. Had 11-28 in mind. If I remove the fd and the 36t, will I still be able to use the full set of rear gears without rubbing?

Will I just need to install a normal chain catcher to stop the front gear slipping off when changing? Also is a normal Rd suitable?

I was intending on putting on shimano 105 r7000. (on a tight budget)

Does anyone know if Transitions can be upgraded to 11 speed? I am trying to switch mine, but the cassette rubs and gets stuck in the rear drop outs. I am beginning to wonder if this is even possible. If anyone has done this or has insight, I would appreciate it.

I ran 11 speed no problem and ever had an issues. Over the years I used Sram and Shimano Cassettes ranging from 11-25 to even 11-36.

Only issue I ever had was a wheel with a wide hub the spokes would hit the inside of the chain stay.

This might be a wheel problem not a frame problem but I suspect its a chain line issue.

The Transition has standard 130m rear spacing which is the basis for both 10 and 11 spd systems. One possibility is that your wheels doesn't have this spacing which can occur if:

You are using a wheel originally built for 10 spd and then converted with a new 11 spd freehub but the tolerances are off.

You are putting an 11spd cassette onto a 10spd free hub and even though the 11 spd cassette is one that is stated as being compatible with 10 spd hubs the tolerances isn't right.

You have a incorrect size/number of spacers on the freehub such as a 10spd spacer paired with an 11 spd cassette.


Anther cause the cassette rub is actually nothing to do with wheel of frame but rear mech alignment. If you changed the whole group set and didn't get the chain line set up the groupset may be pulling the whole system outboard. The horizontal dropouts on the Transition will work against you here and allow the wheel/cassette to get pulled into the frame in a way which is difficult to correct unless you grow an additional arm. What I would do is fit the wheel directly in the frame and tighten down the QR without the chain/mech. Before you do this you want to make sure the screws in the dropouts are perfectly even with one another or the wheel will be wonky no matter what you try. If you still get rub then its a wheel problem.
