I have been lurking here since I'm taking a break from multisport mostly to get some health issues ironed out. But I got great news Friday -- I got into the Gasparilla Ultra challenge in Florida next month! It's a 15K and a 5K on Saturday, and a half marathon and an 8K on Sunday, so just more than 30 miles total. I had been on vacation when they announced spots were getting limited and totally missed the deadline, but got put on a waiting list. I had just given up hope until I got the email Friday. My sister lives down that way so I have a place to stay.

My excitement quickly turned to "Oh God, what have I done???" when I did the math and realized it's a 12-mile day followed by an 18-mile day!!!!!!! I've done a few back-to-back medium/long runs recently but not that volume and nothing longer than a 10-miler. So I did a 7-miler Saturday and a 12.25-miler yesterday to test things out and it went well. I am a little stiff and sore today but nothing that suggests I'm setting myself up for failure. I figured I'd add a mile or so to both long runs for the next couple of weeks. If I can get into the 10/15-mile range I'll be in good shape. This also means that any cross-training or weight-lifting has to be reduced to a lower priority for the next 5-6 weeks.

Bonus, I now have a race-cation and a visit with my sister to look forward to!

You ladies are the only people who can understand why this is such a big deal for me, lol. Everyone else is like, congrats, but why would you want to do that? hahaha

Sounds like fun. Visiting and racing and vacation all in one - what's not to like?

Thanks for getting us started TC. How are you? How were your travels and interviews? Hope all the women had a good week!

My goals were: 5 rides for a total of 8h 10m. Get back into the habit of doing a little bit of physio/core work each day

I hit the trainer goal - it was tough. I'm pretty sure that's the most TSS I've hit (ever) and I woke up this morning feeling exhausted. Feeling better now though.

I did physio/core work 5 days out of 7. Some days it was just some quick work after a ride but I got two longer sessions in at the gym as well.

This week's goals: 5 rides/8h 30m on the trainer. Maintain or improve on the physio/core front. I am noticing the advantages of a stronger core. Last winter, anything over 90 minutes on the trainer would lead to me getting really uncomfortable along my lower back. It wasn't long lasting and taking a walking break for a minute or two would usually get rid of it for a while. This winter, I haven't had that problem (yet) - it's motivation to keep it up!

It was a wet and wild week!

We've had a boat load of rain in California! It is great, but makes a mess out there. Stuck to running this week - 6/7 for the week in 100/100 challenge. I'm definitely getting faster. Its great.

Upcoming:
7x Run
2x TrainerRoad
1x Swim (I know, I keep saying that... I mean it this time)

Its crazy time at work. I'm at my desk by 5am and I'm not home until 8pm. I sneak away for my 1-2x / day workouts and that is my entire life right now.

Lake San Antonio (home to Wildflower) North Shore - lake is filling up!

Thanks! It takes 7 miles of uphill running to get that perspective. It was a miserable day and I almost missed the picture but then some mountain bikers were ooohing and awwwwing and I picked my drooping head up to see that. Must stop staring at the ground!!

That's awesome Midtown Miles! Sounds like a great event - if you enjoy it, there's actually one in MI I keep thinking about maybe trying someday: Run Woodstock has a bunch of different events between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Love those shots SLOgoing - I alternate between missing out on the scenery because I'm trying to watch my footing and nearly falling on my fool head because I'm gaping at the views! Glad you're still finding time to get out for a sanity break - I'm an accountant as well and coming into my busiest time (payroll specialist serving ~40 companies, so I have ALL THE REPORTING to do by the end of February on top of my regular full-cycle work), so I know how important it is!

Last week's goals:
run x 5: WIN with 6
strength/conditioning x 3: WIN
mobility/stretch x 1: WIN

The race on Saturday was surreal. January 21st and it was 5c/41f out, with thick fog from the remaining ice and snowpack sublimating into the air.

The sun tried to break through a couple of times, but that would just increase the melting and moisture content in the air so the mist hung in all day. Conditions got really mushy toward the end of the 3-hour, and I did some damage to my poor left ankle again in the churned up mess.

Took my camera out on course for a lap just for fun - yes I ran in a skirt and bare legs, and no I wasn't cold.

Managed 11 (2.2km) laps + 1 (200m) checkpoint for a total of 24.4km...plus a bit because I stupidly went off course on my SECOND loop! Mind was wandering and I totally forgot that a section of the course is cut off for the winter race - this is the same venue as the 6-hour I run every October and I was just on autopilot, so did about an extra 100m down toward the pond and had to run back up the hill. Stupid lemming! I was actually amazed by how strong I felt throughout, though; after the health issues (sinus infection, dental surgery) & lack of recovery since the 8-hour, then less than 5hrs of sleep for the 2 nights prior to the race. Took me almost 45mins to loosen up off the start, but apparently my performance was good enough for 1st woman overall!

That caps off 23hrs of racing in the last 12 weeks: two 6-hour races 2 weeks apart at end of Oct/mid-Nov, then the 8-hour on Jan 7 & 3-hour on the 21st. Felt good enough that I went for a short run on Sunday after a 2hr hike, though my ankle is still whiny if I step wrong. I don't have another real race until the end of April now, so it's time to get myself recovered and then put in the work for the *gulp* 100k at the end of May..

This week's goals:
run x 4
swim x 1
core/strength x 4

Great pics Slo and k - love seeing your pics. We've had the fog over snow/ice here too - and my grippy things you recommended came yesterday, so no excuses! (and of course almost all the ice is gone now haha).

Last week's plans:
- skate 2x - DONE
- swim 1x - FAIL (I was planning to go Fri but that ended up ebing Day 1 of my cycle, there's no swimming happening on Day 1!)
- dryland/cables/core/drills 1x - DONE
- ride 2x - WINNER WINNER with 3 rides
- go to Okanagan for long weekend with kids & hubby. :-) - DONE and BONUS not one but two xc ski sessions (one with kids and hubby so a slow affair, and a second solo faster-but-then-I-bonked session). I'd been planning on buying new xc ski gear as my old set of skis/boots/poles is from 1992. Seriously. Now K's feet are the same size as mine, so I figured why not? New gear, and a shot of the view from the top.

This week's plans:
- skate 3x
- swim 1x
- dryland/cables/core/drills 1x
- run 1x
- ride 2x
- last day of work is THURSDAY :-)

goals for this week:
swim Mon, Tues, Wed, Sunday (today's done!) ... Saturday would be a bonus did the four planned, no Saturday
run 6x (and no more than 6x) done
bike 1x nope, I could have done this but just didn't. Not worried about it

I was away at an on-campus interview on Thursday and Friday. It went well, I think, but I was really tired of all the "people time" and just stayed indoors Saturday.

This week's goals: swim M, T, Th, Sa (M,T done)
run 6x (and no more than 6x)
bike would be a bonus

I'm headed out this afternoon on a little 10 day interview tour. I am interviewing at two schools back east and get to spend some time with my family between them. :-) One interview is this Friday and the next one is next week, Wed. night through the end of Friday.

Hello women of SlowTwitch. Thanks for getting us started Tigerchik and good luck on the interviews.

Great news Midtown Miles! I love that folks are sharing photos with their updates :D Thanks SLOGoing (California's getting so lush!), mistressk (love the foggy trails!) and AndyPants (I'm wishing for snow!)

I've was in Texas this week for work (I was promoted!) so my update is a little late. I had a pretty easy week last week after my race with my only real training a 10 mile run and 3K swim on Sunday.

This week, I knew I'd still be a little tired and knew I'd be traveling so I set the bar low: 3 runs, 3 lifts (2 of each done), 2 bikes (1 done), 2 swims (1 failed attempt), and try not to eat like crap at a BBQ/fried heavy week long conference.

Hoping to get back in the ocean tomorrow and that next week is more "normal" (whatever that is).

Hope everyone had a great week.
