On my feet all day in the office
Hey Guys,

I am on my feet all day at work and need some more comfortable shoes so my legs aren't shredded by the end of the day. They should be business casual. Anyone got anything?

I found these:

Any other ideas?

I have always found Ecco's super comfy. Dress, casual and golf shoes I've owned have been great and last forever.

Did it occur to you that my job requires me to be on my feet?

Sure did (just like I knew you weren't a clown) - but take control and have the work come to you, and if you can't

First of all, man the fuck up.

I prefer a chukka or chelsea boot for all day on my feet.

You might also experiment with orthotics inside of your dress shoes for additional support. The Danskos will accept them; I have them inside of my Hokas while I work up to 14 hours daily as a personal trainer. Superfeet, New Balance, Aetrex, and Powerstep are a few that I have either used personally or sold when I owned a running specialty store.

Rockport, a division of Reebok and Cole Haan, a division of Nike, will both have styles of what you're looking for. Good luck and take care of your dogs ;-)

I use these in the hospital, on my feet all day, super comfy. Also wearing orthotics. I have the classic black boots.

This. I've had a pair of Ecco dress shoes I've worn once or twice a week for 20 years now and they are still in pretty decent condition and by far my most comfortable pair of shoes.

I'm on my feet all day as well and have tried almost every shoe out there. I have to say that Johnston and Murphy "signature series" are by far the most comfortable dress/business casual shoe I've ever worn. Think I have about 10 pair of these things in the closet now.

Not all chairs are confining. Some are even designed to help you move around. Get one of these and assessorize as needed.

If you like Hokas and don't mind the look, these can pass for business casual.

I got them and my teenage daughter asked me, "So, have you just given up?"

Yes... yes I have.

Everyone's feet are different, and it might make a difference what type of work you're doing. If it's just constant walking around, you might need something different than if it's standing still. You also might try some different socks and/or orthotics. Some foot pain could be from swelling which can be helped by some types of socks.

If the job involves walking around all the time, I prefer boots of some sort. Boots like the Blundstones someone posted earlier are nice because they're easy to slip on and off during a break. I wore a pair in that style from and Australian company called Rossi, but they're more of a work boot, than business style.

Clarks.

Go to a Clarks store, if there's a one around you, and just ask for comfortable shoes. Expect to pay $80 - $160, but they will last a really long time.

I got these for my suit.

And something *kinda* like this for wear with Dockers

The first pair I definitely own. I'm not sure about the second pair, but the two pairs I have are as comfortable as running shoes.

FWIW, I got the suit shoes after a business trip in Germany where I had to wear a suit 5 days in a row, including two nights out walking around town. That sucked! The next week I was at a Clarks store.

When I was in school I worked at an outpatient pharmacy during the summers and spent the entire day standing (and mostly in one spot). When I first started, my legs were dead by the end of the day and I'd have to sit down for a bit after work and rest before I was up for working out. My n=1 was:
-Find the most comfortable shoes for you. Try on a bunch in the store. I tried Danskos for a couple days at work, which most RNs love, but they didn't do it for me. I found Clarks and Eckos to be the most comfortable.
-Rotate shoes so you are not wearing the same pair on back to back days.
- Standing/being on your feet all day gets easier with time. Your body will start to get used to it, especially if you make sure to use good posture

Another vote for Ecco. Its a little more but generally they are the most comfortable / breathable men's semi-formal shoes out there.

The ECCO CALCAN Slip-on is one of my 'go-to' shoes between in Spring and Fall.
