I'm doing well thank you. How about you?

Of last week's goals I managed both swims, 3 bikes and 4 runs. We had an easterly wind on Friday and Saturday and that blew in a lot of wildfire smoke from Sask. My eyes were burning inside the house so the long bike ride planned for Saturday was shelved. It's been super hot and humid as well. Luckily there was a thunderstorm last night so things are cooler but this morning's run was in 91% humidity - my ponytail was dripping like a mo-fo.

Busy week ahead but plan is swim x 3, run x 5 (already done 1), bike x 4. One of the Texas 4000 groups is passing through our town tomorrow so one of the rides will be with them and the fire department escort on to the highway on Wednesday morning.

I am also super excited because we are getting a hitch put on our CRV on Wednesday and then buying a bike rack at the weekend so packing the car to go to triathlons will no longer be the jigsaw effort it currently is. Just in time for our first 70.3 which is in 13 days. I wasn't nervous and then the bib assignments came out so now I have butterflies.

Hope the rest of you had a good week.

Super fun week at camp - last Friday one of the campers who swims with watershoes accidentally kicked a shoe off, and he had socks on underneath. LOL. They make me laugh in new ways everyday. Best moment today (not a laughing moment, but a sweet one) was a female camper asking a female counselor "will you marry me?" you know how 8-9 year old girls are always crushing on the male counselors, so I thought the female "will you marry me" was awesome.

Goals this week: ride 5x (one done, short but I got on the bike... I do like it...) four! I rode more miles than I ran!, swim at least twice twice done, take a day off from running done

M: 10.3 mi run + 4 mi bike
T: 3 mi run + 45 min teaching spin class + 6 mi run
W: 10.3 mi run
T: 5 mi run + 1300 yd swim
F: 6 mi run (some quarter-mile pickups) + 2600 yd swim
S: 42 mi bike
S: 11 mi run (4 x 1 mi 6:58 pace) + 6.2 mi bike

Excitement this week = if I can find someone to be waterfront director at camp on Fri., I can go to Boston to see my Salt Lake City-dwelling brother (who will be there for a wedding). Needless to say I've been working very hard to find a replacement!

Goals for the week: ride 4x (1 done), take a day off from running, swim at least twice

Last week sucked balls. The air quality was terrible all week.
- hope the wind clears the smoke out (maybe by Wed if we are lucky) so I can ride at least once this week, maybe on the weekend too.... FAIL it only got decent really by Fri and my weekend was all ready booked up.
- do some work on the house to keep me sane I guess... DONE and lots done, pretty happy with that.
- oh and hope I get a chance to try out my new toys DONE and also quite happy with them.
- BONUS first ever speed skating coached dryland session Sat morning - coach: "your legs and glutes are really strong, your core's not bad, but what's with the wussy upper body?"

This week:
- Ride 5x - 1 done and I got sucked into Strava, got 2 trophies on my ride haha, this is how they suck you in
- Run 3x - the oppressive heat has finally broken and I think even my doggy wants to give it a try again... :-)
- Weights 3x - will go back to the 5x5 stronglifts but at lower weight and slower increases
- Dryland 1x

Crushed it last week. 5x bike (184 mi + one 45 min trainer session), 6x run (38 mi), 2x swim (6300m), 1x strength

This week - hope to keep this ball rolling. I know I won't get in as many bike miles though, as we are going up north to spend a long weekend with family -Which I'm definitely REALLY REALLY looking forward to.

Last week sucked. My oldest kitty (15.5yrs) had been on the decline for some time now, but she really seemed to fall off a cliff by Sunday - I knew her time was almost up when she was curled up under my husband's pillow when I came to bed & she didn't climb on my chest. Tuesday afternoon I started making inquiries about local clinics for euthanasia, then went for a swim & headed out for a run afterward with my husband chasing me on his bike.

Got home and heard pitiful yowling. My poor girl had tried to jump into a chair, couldn't make it, and got her front claws stuck - she was hanging from them when I found her, head lolled back and looking like she'd given up hope. I got her un-stuck, and she settled down on the floor, purring as I stroked her. Not wanting to leave her alone (and she wouldn't move from where she was), I put a towel she likes to lay on in her favourite laundry basket and set her in it. Brought her down to the kitchen while I made dinner, tickling her whenever I had a moment, then down to the livingroom while we picked at our food. I had the bright idea to give her a couple of her favourite treats, and she perked right up when she smelled them...standing up to reveal her right front paw was folded under and wouldn't support her meagre weight.

I knew she wasn't going to recover from it and that she was in pain - while she'd try to settle on her side she couldn't get comfortable enough to close her eyes and sleep. So, at half past midnight, she took her last ride to the emergency vet and went to her rest as I stroked her gently. She'd been through so much with me - I'd had her almost 2yrs by the time I met my husband, half a country away - and she remained her sweet, loving self right to the very end.

Whisper, aka Schwee

Didn't get any more than 5hrs of sleep any night last week (only 3hrs on Tuesday night), so knew Saturday's race was pretty much just to get my entry fee out of it. Had a horrible swim (which always happens when I'm tired), actually had a bit of fitness on the bike and was decently happy with my split, and ran better than I really had a right to expect. Still a personal worst time for that race, but at least I don't think I did any further damage to the injury. We had dinner reservations and Stratford Festival tickets for Hamlet on Saturday night, so that made for a nice end to the day; we drove out to Stratford early and hit a sidewalk cafe we really like, then strolled around the historic downtown for a bit before dinner.

Sunday was pretty low key - just a swim for "training" before doing some work I needed to get to on my husband's motorcycle, taking the motorbikes for a spin, hitting the driving range for awhile and going for a walk.

This week's goals:
- swim x 2
- bike x 2
- run x 2
- core/strength x 4

Have tickets to the PanAm games velodrome events Saturday morning, then Sunday we're driving up to a hotel to be closer to the place we pick up our new kevlar canoe on Monday morning & have them shuttle us to our insertion point (Byng Inlet) on Georgian Bay for 5 days of paddling. At this point I really can't wait to leave everything behind for the windswept rocks and stunted trees of my soul's true home.

Oh, and Friday I officially become closer to 40 than to 30. Still trying to decide if I want to go dancing on Friday night to celebrate (it's been a long time) since I have to get up very early on Saturday to hit the farmers' market before we go to the velodrome, then have a ton of packing to do once we get home. I'm leaning toward doing it anyway because I'd like to believe I'm not so old and tired that I can't go have fun anymore, and I will probably catch up on sleep while we're paddling.

AP - husband finally got me to join Strava too. It's OK to keep track of rides. Kind of fun I suppose.

I'm sorry about your cat. I'm sure you gave her a wonderful loving life. It's tough losing a pet.

I'm glad you could be with your kitty to the end.

No coasting in running and no crying in baseball
