It has been answered indirectly by me and directly by the attorney. Slowtwitch has not been paying attention. My attorney posted elsewhere what happened and then.........silence, not even crickets chirping.

"Exploding Trainer Flywheels
posted by shirer on 1/25/2015 8:06:00 AM. Is anyone aware of a flywheel exploding on a trainer (Compu-Trainer).

I have been contacted by a person who had this happen. The flywheel just disintegrated. A piece of shrapnel went into him (surgery required). Pieces lodged in the wall, and a piece bent the trainer stand.

If you like you can send me an email or call me.

Thanks."

Wow. But that doesn't quite correlate with this.

The accident happened about 6:25PM Tuesday November 25, 2014. The footprints on the kitchen floor were taken by my daughter with her cell phone. The garage pictures by me after coming home from surgery a few days later. My wife cleaned up the house, I get to clean the garage. As I was alone, I went inside to get my insurance card. No idea why I went to the kitchen sink. The dog did lick some of it and then tracked it over the house also!

The accident happened on the trainer, I called for help using the cell phone, walked inside for insurance card and to put up the dog. Walked back outside, closed garage door and waited on front porch. EMS arrived 11 after my call.

Story forth coming at a latter date.

If the flywheel blew up, why isn't there a pic of that? Where are the pix of the "Pieces lodged in the wall, and a piece bent the trainer stand?"

I'm sure those would have been pretty spectacular as well

So you post a link to another forum when everyone has been questioning this specific thread on Slowtwitch. Even the thread on TXBRA is lacking any picures of what can actually back up any claims. Where are the pictures of the broken flywheel, where is the damage to the wall, where is the bent trainer?

I'm sorry, but this seems like a big lie to me.

Like I said ...

My personal theory is that daughter was doing some sort of crating project when she and hblake noticed that whatever red dye/paint she was using looked a LOT like blood, so they said to each other "Let's make a crime scene!"

They faked up some blood splats, made a trail of bloody footprints [since hblake is one of those who rides a trainer without sox] and ... presto!

It seems like this story and the one from safeproducts.gov are separate incidents, indicating that there are at least 2 poorly documented occurrences of computrainers exploding.

It looks like beet juice to me.
Walked to the sink, I don't think that's where people keep insurance cards but its where most people would dispose of a leaking bottle.

First post to these forums for me, but this thread has always intrigued me. Looks like the original post is legit. See these couple of tweets from DC Rainmakerhttps://twitter.com/...s/674346439397478400 and https://twitter.com/...s/674347334231318528

I suspect the OP got a nasty gash when the flywheel of trainer disintegrated, ejecting a large chunk of jagged steel at a pretty high velocity.

First person to guess right?

The flywheel is cast iron though. A terrible material for flywheels.

The blue ones were cast Magnesium. Or at least mine was.

Check this out guys. Look at the dent on the trainer tubing. It looks like a bullet hit it. Scary stuff!
