I see the gossamer in the old style are 599. I have a Caad 10 with a gossamer. Bb30. With my shiv I had to get a rotor 3d to put in without any modification.

I did. Not too happy given that I *just* ordered one last Friday and haven't even received it let alone installed it. I'm feeling like returning it now...

I've emailed Power2Max regarding this very issue. Purchased on April 1st, delivered on April 9th and not yet installed. I'd hate to have to go to the trouble to return and reorder, but for $180 I might have to. Still waiting on a response from P2M, we'll see what they say....

I just got a response. I literally just received the box today in the mail and haven't even installed the battery in the power meter let alone took it for a spin. They basically said I'm SOL and they're either willing to send me either a free set of Praxis rings ($180 MSRP, I already bought a set with the power meter for $99), $150 off a future purchase of $1000 or more (seriously, why would I buy another one any time soon?), or a Garmin 1000 Bundle for $519 (this is the best offer of them but not a very good one for me as I already have three power ready Garmin units, a multitude of speed and cadence sensors and HR straps so if anything I'd buy the non-bundle for $540 from Clever Training when the time and money is right).

So I told them that I'll jut suck up the return shipping and $20 restocking fee and I'll order another one Tuesday. Everybody loses on this deal, I'm guessing it'll cost me $20 to ship it back to Canada so I'll be out $60 overall but at least make $90 out of the $150 and for that much I'm willing to do it. If they had any customer service skills they would offer me $120 refund and call it a day...

It's not like I had the unit for a month and rode a thousand miles on it already. I haven't even received it and it already lost $150 of its value.

Hi all,

@mattjevans: I am not entirely sure on that one. If the XX1 have the same axle length and interface you can use it. If the axle is longer the chain line would be off. Loctite on the three bolts is recommended, also on the lock ring on the Rotor 3D. If you order the Rotor 3D with cranks it comes installeD

All the best

Thanks - to be clear I'm talking about cx1 not xx1

@jsaunders: it's tough to tell. I don't know the road machine, on my trainer (Elite Elastogel) the resistance would change as it heated up, or when the tire got warm.

@mattjevans: If the axle length is the same you're good.

Cheers

The room I am in is fairly small so I'm guessing the gem pasture rises fairly high as I was in there for 90 minutes already.

Would the tempature increase cause the readings to drop? I don't stop pedaling during all of my indoor rides so it wasn't offset since I started 80 minutes prior. To give you an idea of how warm it is the windows completely fog up and I am sweating a lot. A lot. A lot. I'm purchasing a large fan soon to combat with that however. Any insight is appreciated.

It was just very odd to see the power drop 10-15 watts given no cadence or gear changes.

Hi Nicholas,

Just got my TypeS for S-Works cranks. However, I do not find any instructions on the manual for the torque to be used to tighten the S-Works crank arms. There are instructions for Rotor (40-50nm), SRAM, FSA, etc etc.

Can you please advise?

Just realized I didnt make my question clear.

I was referring to tightening the powermeter to the specialized crankarms, using the lock ring tool.

It is more about the fluid inside the trainer changing temperatures due to the effort and turbulence inside it which changes the viscosity of the fluid and thus the effort. I've seen this myself doing hard intervals where I have to upshift in the middle in order to maintain power.

An interesting Power2Max on a trainer for you here. This is from my old Power2Max classic unit, (unfortunately stolen with my bike this past week, just ordered a new one. Would appreciate ASAP shipment as I've got big race with a TT I'd like to pace off power in two weeks... but besides the point...). Back to power meters and data. I have a curious case involving data differences between my power2max unit and ergometer trainers. The data example I have is from using a kickr, I have experienced similar on a power beam.

So here are the plots showing the difference numbers.

Early on it is pretty similar... I do a spin down of the kickr and it goes way off. (I had been spinning for 10 minutes warming up before I started collecting data oops). After the first interval I do another spin down, it comes closer together. After the last of that set I do another... a little closer. Nonetheless... about 20w higher the kickr read. What I find odd is that they matched perfectly before the spin down calibration. The numbers the kickr gave me felt the same, it felt harder to achieve the same numbers on the power2max and the kickr numbers were just a hair lower than usual road efforts (3-5%). Which makes the p2m numbers about a whopping 15% off! Was there perhaps some sort of issue where the nature of the spin down created a bad zero offset reading for the p2m?

I don't ride ergometers very often, I ride rollers usually never had such issues there. IDK what the issue is here, but it obviously didn't stop me from coming back for the same thing.

I just ordered one too and received it today from the post office. I purchased the Type S for 1299 and now I learned that the price has dropped down to $1079. I have yet to contact power2max regarding this but I would be extremely unhappy if they are unwilling to honor a credit. i'll keep y'all posted.

I can't see the images you posted but have you seen the huge thread here on ST where a large number of people have reported that their Kickr reports 20-30w higher than their PM (all kinds of PMs, not just P2max units).

I'm not sure what's up with the images either. I'll have to fix that later (when not on my phone). I have seen lots of stuff about kickr inaccuracies what I find peculiar about this case is that it gets worse after a roll down calibration and that I've seen the identical thing happen on a power beam United just don't have the data file from the power beam (was part of a study I was a part of). Subjectively the p2m number just didn't seem right either. I'm saying I usually do 3 minute efforts at 310 to 320w outside, kickr set to 300, p2m says 270w (a little lower than 10 min power outside) and I feel like death at the end.

Nicolas,

I've installed my Power2Max Type S FSA Gossamer BB386EVO (with new Praxis rings installed by P2M).. and I seem to have one minor issue. The spline (?) or whatever the pipe-thing is that fits through my BB30 bottom bracket seems to be too long; or, I am missing a spacer. I installed the 2 spacers that came with the crankset (for BB30/BB386EVO compatability) and inserted the drive side all the way in through the BB, but there are still a few millimeters of space left on the non-drive side of the bike, even after tightening the M18 bolt to the recommended torque on the left crank arm(40 N-m).

After riding the bike, the crankset seems to shift to the right, i.e. the drive side, so the net result is extra space on the drive side, until I press it back. This presents an issue with shifting as the chain rings move around. I'm able to ride without an hiccups by adjusting the front derailleur but I am concerned about the bearing cover/bearing possibly being exposed to the elements. Am I missing a spacer, or do you think i installed it incorrectly? I have looked on the FSA website and there is not much help there.

Thanks

@jsaunders: the power meter has a temperature compensation, so a gradual change in temperature in the room won't affect the data. It's really tough to analyze your case from afar. If in doubt I recommend coasting 3-5s to do an auto zero.

@sudahbonk: 40NM is the value to go for.

@joroshiba: I can't comment on the values of the kickr and other trainers. FWIW, I find it much harder to hold power indoors than outdoors, likely due to the fixed bike position. The power2max always works the same way, whether indoors or outdoors, and is always calibrated in the same way. If you want to do a plausibility test I would test it on a long steep climb (>6%, >1000ft gain, accurate distance, elevation and weight data) and compare to a model.

@sch340: are the dust caps installed on the bearings and do you have a wave washer on the non-drive side? On my PF30 frame I had a thin plastic washer + the wave washer on the non drive side installed.

Cheers
Nicolas

Driving to 5 day stage race early monday AM, VERY happy to have a meter. Nicely done on the shipping front either way. THANK YOU.

I have a Type S and last ride I had a kind of hick-up of the power meter. I noticed on my Garmin 510 that the power reading was 0.
Later I saw that the maximum power output was 2458 Watt.
Well, I definitely can't make these power numbers.
The battery in the P2M is good (according to my Garmin readout).
Just a hick-up of the power meter and nothing to worry about?

Hello Watt Matters,

you are of course entitled to your opinion, like everybody else. Just to clarify - it is of course possible to take readings by hanging a weight off the crank arm of a power2max. We simply doesn't recommend the test because it is not a reliable, unbiased, reproductible test, based on the our experience. We suggest testing against a Cyclus2 or to do a climb test. In our factory we have even more precise testing capabilities.

Have a great holiday and best,

NIcolas

Hi Nicolas,

I would like to know how you measure the raw torque, my power2max type-s only sends ICalculatedpower over ANT+.

I can understand why you don't recommend it, but it would be interesting for me to do at least.

Best Regards David

Nicolas,

Just ordered my second power meter from you guys for my caad10. Super excited.

But, when I was swapping cranks with another bike on the older on, my crank bolt stripped out -- the bolt that's in the center of the crank set. Do you sell replacements for the gossamer classic??

perhaps a silly question, but i will ask anyway.

2 bikes - one 10 speed rings - one 11 speed 4 bolt 5800 rings

Interesting in getting a rotor 24 p2max with praxis rings and swapping them between bikes.

would front mech adjustment be needed every time the crankset is switch over

eg - 5800 crankset -> switch to rotor w/praxis
and 5700 crankset -> switch over to rotor w/praxis.

I think that the only adjustment that might be necessary (they are all 50/34) would be the limits, but i would rather know before purchase wether
or not it would be JUST a case of switch cranks, or wether front mech adjustments would also be required.

for some reason that i might have imagined, i thought i had read that the shimano 11 speed chainrings were a slightly different distance apart?

thanks in advance
