Regarding the FSA rings. You're right - if your little ring has the cutouts around the bolt holes they are not compatible. They only work on specific FSA spiders in that case.
We get very positive feedback on Praxis Works rings, the shifting is very crisp (I use them myself and am very happy with them). Praxis recommends Shimano, Campagnolo, or KNC chains for best shifting. (see here: http://www.praxiscycles.com/...t/compact-road-sets/)
