Wondering if anyone can help me.

Had a low battery warning a while ago so replaced the battery, only to get drops in power readings and another low power warning. Replaced the battery and all was fine for a ride or two, just been out again and had a lower battery warning, as well as a bunch of drops in readings. Second half of the ride readings come back and all ok again.

Anyone had this issue before, and know what the cause may be? Surely not two dud batteries??

Thanks,
Tom.

Ah yeah.

It's a second generation original power2max with the temp correction. Batteries are the Renata cr2450n batteries.

Hi Tom

I haven't seen a power meter act up after a battery change, so I couldn't tell for sure. It could be unlucky with batteries, but it may have to be checked if that can be excluded.

I take it you're in Europe? In that case please contact the support there, they will advise.

Cheers

Glad i found this thread, has explained quite a few questions.

It would be quite useful to have a frame compatibility chart that it is updated with frames that are a problem.
Currently have a TCX 1 2014 and an Defy Adv Pro 0 (would be switching crankset over) and due to frame compatibility issues of BB86 it kind of makes me nervous.

Rec. for BB86 are FSA Gossamer, FSA K-Force Light, Rotor 3D.

Is there are reason that Force 22 is not included? What about the Rival22 P2MClassi cranksets offered?

When looking at the Frame Compatibility (image below) considering the outer bore shape - i think being nervous about measuring to within
a mm is to be expected. Especially since the 'outer bore' is somewhat rounded - and sometimes (almost?) flat.

It would be good to have a little more info about it.

Where would i measure from on such a curved BB as below? I feels almost flat

compatibility question, you lists are a little inconsistent in places.

The S950 crank is listed on the US but not the European site. On thwe site it states that

Quote:
The SRAM S900 is only compatible up to 2009 model year. Newer models are unfortunately not compatible.

As i am weak / live in the hills I need a compact. Is the latest S950 compatible with the standard classic, if not how do i identify old S950?

On the S series Sram version it states

Seeing that Praxis rings are not compatible with Sram 22, what are the alternatives that DO work with SRAM 22?

am i correct that the compatible S950/S900 sram cranks are the ones that look like these?

Hi Nicolas

I haven't been able to find an answer to this question in the thread:

Can I use the gen1 Lightning spider shown on the website together with a standard Specialized bb30 crank?

Link to spider on website: http://www.power2max.de/...eter-without-cranks/

Thanks in advance :-)

@juju: Giant frames are unproblematic in terms of BB86 compatibility. The reason the Force22 isn't listed is that the crank geometry limits compatibility with the frames, unlike with other cranks. The FSA BB386EVO frames will fit all BB86 and BB386EVO frames, because the power meter sits completely outside the bottom bracket area.

The S900 was only compatible up to the 2009 model with the Classic - the Type now also works with the new S900/950 and the Force22.

Praxis rings work fine with SRAM 22 - see Praxis compatibility notes here: http://www.praxiscycles.com/...t/compact-road-sets/

@MrSommer: unfortunately not - the Lightning and Specialized cranks have different axle lengths, and therefore different geometries. The chain line would be completely wrong.

I hope I covered everything.

thanks for the response.

can you confirm that Giant frames are unproblematic for the Classic?
(just in case you were referring to the S Series only)

&

The S900 pre-2009 came as both compact and standard AFAIK, but i assume that as the spider is replaced it is of no consequence which pre-2009 i manage to get?

If the above is all correct, and confirmed - i will have no issues running a 110mm P2M Classic with pre-2009 S900 on both my 2014 TCX 1 SLR & 2015 Defy Adv Pro 0 ?

Thanks.

Looking at two different crank options for my Felt IA: Rotor 3D+ and FSA K-Force. Can you tell me the strengths of each of these?

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi ibetri,

the Rotor 3D+ is available in a lot of crank lengths, starting at 150mm, up to 180mm. The K-Force Light only starts at 165mm.

The Rotor is made of CNC machined aluminum, the K-Force from carbon. Some people prefer one material over the other, I like both.

The K-Force is lighter than the Rotor 3D+, the 3D+ has the advantage that people often already have the cranks and just need the power meter.

I hope this helps!

Hi Nicolas. I need some info and maybe you can help. I am running a classic p2m with a garmin 500. When I switch on the garmin it picks up the p2m and gives me the option to calibrate. If I select 'yes' it doesn't matter how long I leave it for nothing happens. For current calibration data I just get a dashed display.
Recently the power readings have become erratic, sometimes high sometimes low. Not spikes but steady readings which do not correspond to heart rate or perceived effort. I have been using the meter for quite some time and this has not happened before. I have changed the battery twice but it makes no difference. The light flashes green when the battery is installed and everything seems normal. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi,

the calibration time out tends to happen when you have sensors registered but not paired, like HR or speed. I think it's a FW bug in the Garmin. You don't need to do that calibration.

Regarding an offset change - would these be happening on the trainer? In that case I would re-do a manual zero by coasting and going to the calibration menu.

Thanks for the rapid response! I'm using the meter both indoor and out but during the course of all rides recently the readings are very erratic. After freewheeling the readings can stabilize or go high or low. I'm not talking about being off by 20w, I can be looking at steady readings of less than 100w or more than 300w for the same effort of about 180w. It's the first time I've had a problem and the meter is about four years old. Nothing more than battery changes up to this.

Hi Sheene,

tough to say from the distance. If it's 4 years old I guess you're from Europe? Please contact support there and they will advise on what steps to take to verify the power meter.

Hi all,

Bit of an obscure question - is it possible to isolate only the cadence output of the power2max?

Reason being - indoors I'm running TrainerRoad connected to a Wahoo Kickr and obviously want to use the Wahoo for power, however I'd like to be able to show the cadence coming from the Power2max. At the moment I can get the cadence from the Power2max but this always also comes with the power2max power which overrides my Wahoo.

Make sense? Any thoughts anyone?

Cheers!

Hi Robert,

I guess the question of isolating cadence depends on the receiving unit. I haven't heard of that possibility, though.

However, I would not necessarily use the Wahoo as the source of your power numbers. This means that indoors you use one source and outdoors another source. I would recommend using the same source in both situations, especially since the Kickr now seems to be able to use the power meter data to control resistance (if I haven't misheard). This way you know your numbers are consistent.

Thanks for the reply - I wasn't aware that the Kickr resistance could be controlled by another power meter - don't suppose anyone knows where I might find more info on this?

Hi,

unfortunately Specialized frames are a bit tricky, because they come in several versions.

If your Shiv has an aluminum BB shell it's a standard BB30 and you can use the FSA BB30 Megaexo adaptor. The frame is 68mm wide at the bottom bracket. (http://www.power2max.com/...es/fsa-megaexo-bb30/)

If it has a carbon shell the frame is 61.5mm wide at the bottom bracket and you need the FSA adapter for OSBB. Unfortunately we don't have it and it's not something that is easily found.

If it's within your budget I would highly recommend the Type S FSA Gossamer BB386EVO (http://www.power2max.com/...er-meter-and-cranks/)

It's the most affordable Type S at $1049 with cranks and fits straight in the bottom bracket. It's also very future proof as it's fully compatible with BSA, BB30, PF30, BBRight, BB86 and BB386EVO. And if you want to go lighter in the future you will be able to switch the crank arms to the K-Force Light BB386EVO.

I hope this helps,

Best
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas

I am considering purchasing a Power2Max for my Shiv Expert and I believe I'm in the same situation as the poster above (but not quite sure).

This is my bike: http://www.specialized.com/...iv/shiv-expert#specs

My cranks are carbon SLK, and I believe the frame is a BB30, however - I will need to measure the BB outer diameter when I get home tonight. Will the P2M Classic work for me, or will I need to go to Type S? I would like to keep cost at a minimum at this time.

Also, will I need to get a PM with a crank or can I use my existing crank? I'm lost as to what the "SLK" refers to on my cranks or the "FSA" on the Shiv Specs website, so not sure if this is a S-Works or FACT Crankset and compatible with a crankless P2M.

Thanks

Hi,

you have FSA (brand) SLK (model) cranks. Those don't allow a power meter to be installed, unfortunately.

An affordable option for your bike would be the Type S FSA Gossamer BB386EVO: http://www.power2max.com/...er-meter-and-cranks/

Hi Nicolas, thanks for your reply. To clarify, the Classic will not work with my frame? For instance I was looking at the Classic with a BOR crank

http://www.power2max.com/northamerica/product/powermeters/power2max-bor-rr688-power-meter-cranks/

This one is actually lighter than the Type S FSA Gossamer (725g vs 786g) and is only $50 more ($1,099 vs $1,049). Or would you recommend the Type S still for future compatibility/upgrades?

@juju: Germany isn't making the 4-bolt anymore, so it won't come back, I'm afraid.

@sch340: the reason I recommend the Gossamer EVO Type S is the greater compatibility: no restrictions on aero chain rings, and full compatibility with BB386EVO makes it extremely future proof. You could even upgrade to K-Force Light BB386EVO arms in the future, if you want.

Nicolas, thanks for your responses. Just two more quick questions, I promise and I'll let you go.

I have FSA 52/36T 110 BCD chain rings along with my existing FSA cranks/spider. I have been reading on here that some FSA chain rings are not compatible and will need to be replaced.

Do you know what I should look for in terms of determining whether or not my rings are compatible? One picture showed an FSA ring with small recesses near the bolt holes - to be compatible, do the bolt holes need to be completely flush with the rest of the ring?

If I do have to replace my rings will I notice any difference with the Praxis 52/36 rings that you sell? Will I need to replace my chain?

Thank you
