Yup, no need for a new bottom bracket in that case.

Confirmed that the loose battery cover is causing the drop in power/cadence. I was inside on the trainer today and noticed another drop, reached down and pushed the cover in toward the frame and it came back instantly. It did this multiple times and each time was corrected by applying pressure to the cover.

Also, where does one find the USA version sticker?

Hi, that's strange and sounds like the battery holder was damaged in some way. Are you using a Renata battery? I guess it's best to send us the unit for inspection in the offseason.

We have the stars and stripes sticker on our site.

Yes renata battery. The screw that pulled through the thin plastic on the battery holder cover is the culprit. I believe a new battery cover will do the trick.

Still can't find the USA theme sticker anywhere on the site.

Hi,

if the screw pulled through the battery cover it was massively overtightened. Please watch out for that, you can damage the inserts that way. The prescribed max torque is 0.15NM (ie with two fingers until you start feeling a bit of resistance). Cranking down these screws does not help water proofing.

We have the battery covers on our site.

Hi rbrnut,

you have the Cervelo spacer with lock ring. For installation on a BSA frame you need a flat lock ring. Please contact us if you want to get one, we have it available.

Nicolas - received the flat lock ring, installed the arm to the rings. When I mount the DS to the spindle, I hand tighten the alloy bolt to the spindle. As soon as I tighten the alloy bolt any further the crank no longer freely spins. In fact it gets to the point where it will barely turn by hand. The preload nut and pinch bolt are fully loosened. I have the silver nut installed under the alloy bolt. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm confused about the suitability of Rotor 3D and 3D+ options with BB86.

The frame compatibility table recommends the 3D, while the 3D+ page says it is "ideal choice for road bikes with BB30, BB86, or BBRight".

Basically, is there any reason not to use a TypeS with 3D+ with a BB86?

Ta.

Hi Jules,

both the 3D and the 3D+ work in a BB86 frame. The 3D needs a Shimano Pressfit or the PF4124 bottom bracket from Rotor. The 3D+ the PD4130 bottom bracket.

I personally prefer the 3D for a BB86 frame, because the 24mm axle leaves more space for the bearings, which means they are a bit beefier. The 3D+ is a bit lighter and I would recommend it if you are planning on also using the 3D+ in a BB30 / PF30 / BBRight or BB386EVO frame.

Hope that helps!

Nicolas
PS: did you read that on the US or European site? I am refining the descriptions on the US site a bit and that should not be on the 3D+ Type S page anymore.

It's on the European site. One of the draws for the 3D+ was the shorter crank lengths. As long as they're both compatible I may flip a coin later.

Cadence dropouts [ In reply to ]
I have one of the older Power2Max models (early adapter here).
Garmin Edge 1000.
Garmin GSC 10 Cadence Sensor installed (w/ magnet on spokes)- mainly for heavy cover or tunnels.

Renata battery in Power2Max.

Today I was experiencing TONS of cadence dropouts.
Only the cadence.

I did not get any sort of low battery signal on my head unit.

What would you guys suspect 1st? Garmin head unit issue? Low battery (even though no message)? Low battery in GSC 10 (even though I think the P2M picks up cadence anyhow)?

Advice?

Eh, my guess is if only cadence and not power, likely the gsc-10. Cadence (from the power2max) is needed for power, so if cadence from power2max went, you shouldn't get power. And if you still have power, obviously the head unit is working.

Just my guess though.

Hi there,

yup, that's right. If power is reading there is a cadence measurement. Both get transmitted in the same data packet. The computer will have given the GSC10 precedence in displaying cadence.

Hi
Have a classic on my Cervelo P5 with Rotor 3D+ cranks
Looking at upgrading my road bike that will have Rotor 3DF cranks. Both have same BCD
Is it possible to swap the classic on my P5 to my new bike with 3DF cranks?
I would then get a new S Type for my P5
Great product BTW

Hi Nicolas,

I'm trying to figure out if a P2M can work with my budget. I have a Shiv Tri Expert (currently with FSA SL-K cranks). Looking through this thread you recommend the Rotor 3D/3D+ as the best options, but I can't justify paying that much at this time. Is it possible to make the FSA Gossamer P2M Classic fit on the Shiv Tri?

Thanks!

Hi,

unfortunately Specialized frames are a bit tricky, because they come in several versions.

If your Shiv has an aluminum BB shell it's a standard BB30 and you can use the FSA BB30 Megaexo adaptor. The frame is 68mm wide at the bottom bracket. (http://www.power2max.com/...es/fsa-megaexo-bb30/)

If it has a carbon shell the frame is 61.5mm wide at the bottom bracket and you need the FSA adapter for OSBB. Unfortunately we don't have it and it's not something that is easily found.

If it's within your budget I would highly recommend the Type S FSA Gossamer BB386EVO (http://www.power2max.com/...er-meter-and-cranks/)

It's the most affordable Type S at $1049 with cranks and fits straight in the bottom bracket. It's also very future proof as it's fully compatible with BSA, BB30, PF30, BBRight, BB86 and BB386EVO. And if you want to go lighter in the future you will be able to switch the crank arms to the K-Force Light BB386EVO.

I hope this helps,

Best
Nicolas

I'd like to add power2max to my Felt S32 bike. (http://www.racycles.com/product/felt-s32-bike)

It uses a BB30 bottom bracket, but I see myself upgrading bikes in the next 12 months. Would it be possible to purchase a model for the bb30 and use it for a speed concept or p2 in the future? I currently have a FSA Vero crankset, but could upgrade that if necessary.

Hi there,

if you want to have a power meter that works with Trek you'll need one with a 24mm axle, as 30mm axles don't fit in BB90 frames. You could go for the Rotor 3D (http://www.power2max.com/...-meter-with-cranks/I and use the Rotor BB30to24 bottom bracket (http://www.power2max.com/...to24-bottom-bracket/).

Edit: just saw and the frame you have isn't a BB30, it's a BSA frame with a square taper bottom bracket. So I would still go with the Rotor 3D and use the BB1 bottom bracket.

I hope this helps!
