Campy record 11 guy looking at getting power finally. Most likely the classic w/ 3d+. Silly question, but there is no chance of the Campy rings fitting on the classic is there? Praxis a must?

Hi Sean,

For the Classic 3D+ there is no Campy bolt pattern - the Praxis Works rings get great reviews. If you want to ride Campy chain rings you'd nee to go for the Campagnolo model, which is more expensive, though.

Nicolas,
Quick question. My P2M arrived today (yay!) and I have a very minor installation question. It's a FSA Gossamer with preinstalled Praxis 50/34 rings. My question is, on the backside (closer to towards the BB) of the PM there is a white sticker/label in a complete circle around the perimiter. Is that just part of the packing material and should be removed or is it part of the waterproofing of the PM itself? I started to remove it but then hesitate and put it back so it is a little wrinkled where I reapplied it. Is it supposed to be removed? I'm looking forward to your answer so that I can finish up the installation and try it out. Thanks!

@323runner: the white tape usually stays on, but it's not an issue if it's crinkled.

@zachboring, jerseybigfoot: unfortunately no news in that direction right now, I will ask again for news.

Hi Nicolas,

What's the typical lifetime of the battery? I've been riding my P2M since March, and was just wondering as I'm approaching my big race of the season next month, and would need to replace the battery 'just in case'. Is there a way to tell the battery status?

Hi Cobble,

about 400 hours of use. If you travel a lot with the bike it will be shorter, since the power meter can wake up during transit.

It sends out a low battery warning to the computer, but coin cells can sometimes plateau before suddenly collapsing, so the low battery warning works most the time but not always.

Can the PM be updated & diagnosed/serviced via a port on the PM?

Hi Constantine,

Updates are done at the service center. Our firmware has been in its current version for a long time though - it does what it should reliably.

Hi Nicolas

I saw last week that you could buy FSA GROSSAMER with Type S power meter, but it is now gone from the side as I was about to order, why?

Hi Tillquist,

the Type S Gossamer was stopped for the moment to keep cranks for the Classic Gossamer, since this is the more populr model with these cranks.

Received and installed and rode my new Classic model today. Thanks to the end of life sale on the classic I ordered a Rotor 3D setup with Praxis rings. Replaced an Ultegra 6800 crankset. I forgot to weigh the P2M before I installed it but it didn't seem any heavier than the Ultegra. Install was a breeze. I did, however, almost lose one of the tiny screws. It was inevitable, as that crap just happens to me. Luckily I found the screw.

Other than just being extra careful not to screw up anything, the install was stupid easy. It is a piece of art. They provided the sticker set I ordered plus a few extra. Props for that. Though not critical it does give a bit of customization and personality to the install.

I did a known route compared to my old Powertap and the numbers seemed to be pretty much in sync with each other. I want to set it up on the KICKR, and will soon, but I'm already happy with the numbers. The left-right comparison is enlightening. I have an artificial hip on my right side and I can definitely see the power bias. I didn't realize the difference with the PT.

Anyway, a few pics from today from a happy customer.

Hi

Firstly, thanks for an amazing product. I have a Type S and it's been fantastic.

On to the inevitable question.... Due to some extreme stupidity on my part I've managed to damage the plate on the back of my Type S (ie: the plate that the screws and rubber plugs go into). I'm worried that the unit might not be watertight now, and wondered if P2M make replacement plates available.

Thanks a lot,

Jimty

Hi Jimty,

rest assured, waterproofing is not affected - the electronics are encased in PU. I will ask Germany if we can get replacement covers. Please contact us on our support mail for follow up.

Thanks and best

Hi,

I own a canyon CF 7.0 - exact spec here: http://www.canyon.com/...parator.html?bp=3239.

It has a shimano ultegra 6700 Bottom bracket with compact 105. Would the power2max rotor 3D F suit this? What tools would I need to install this?

Thanks a mil,
Joe

Hi Nicolas,

Is it correct to assume that a Rotor 3D Type S currently on a Dura Ace 9000 BSA 68mm bottom bracket, will be fine on the 70mm Italian version from Shimano?

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg,

yup, you're right. If it's a current generation Shimano Hollowtech2 you're good.

going to be ordering a P2M PM in the next few days, but wanted to see if there's much of a different in the classic to the Type S. What would be the benefits to getting the Type S over the classic? And is there a noticeable difference in the Rotor 3D to the FSA?

(Can't wait to finally click the Place Order button in the coming days)

Thanks,

Hi,

sorry for the slow response. Date night with the girlfriend and ST curfew :).

I'd say it depends really on your personal preference between the Classic and the Type S. Both are equally precise and have the same core features (auto zero, no magnet, chain ring changes without affecting calibration, user changeable battery, solid water proofing). The Type S is more refined - it's lighter, the battery compartment is moved further inboard, so no issues with aero chain rings, it's better suited to BB386EVO frames, and of course you can get it for more crank models.

So I'd say - if you are more of a no-nonsense kind of guy for whom the power meter is a tool, get the Classic and save the money for a nice trip or something. If you like your bike a lot and love your gear, get the Type S. Power meters last a long time and Type S would protect you from upgradeitis.

Re FSA vs Rotor: similar thoughts here. The FSA is about 90g heavier and forged. The Rotor is CNC machined, which makes it a bit nicer. Both do their job really well, the Rotor is just that much nicer (a bit like Ultegra vs 105, I'd say).

Does the PM come with just plain black if no color ring is ordered? And if I order a color ring (for the classic) is it easily removed?

Hi,

yup, if you don't order a color it is plain black. You can always add and remove the rings - they are sturdy PU dome stickers.
