Hi Joel,

unfortunately not. The FSA cranks are one piece (crank plus spider) which makes it impossible to install a power meter. However, the FSA Gossamer is extremely well priced - only $20 more than the power meter alone!

You may have answered this with Joel but I already own the fsa gossamer 165mm p2m but need 155mm cranks. Anyway to swap the cranks on my existing p2m? If not, do I have any other options like trade in or do I just have to buy a whole new meter?

Hi cbump,

unfortunately 165mm is the shortest we have on the Gossamer. The only cranks we have in 155mm are the Rotor 3D+, which are completely different in terms of power meter.

Sorry I don't have better news.

I don't know about that specific crank, but for cranks that can be modified, they can be shortened provided the change is at least 20mm, so you could enquire whether someone could modify a 175mm gossamer crank to 155mm for you. This is just an example of someone who modifies cranks from a quick search, I have no personal knowledge of them:

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I do want to get the rotor p2m mentioned above but I guess I need to sell mine first. 6 trainer rides on them if anyone is interested.

Quick question... I just got a new shiv and I am looking at getting the S-Works version of your powermeter... I have one question do I have to buy the chainrings you offer or will the chainrings that specialized sell work... I know that I had some problems using FSA chainrings with my current power2max powermeter (I ended up buying generic shimano chainrings that work fine)... I just want to make sure what my options are before buying...

Thanks,

Joel

Thanks that is what I thought when I got my power2max power meter but I know I and a friend both had problems with FSA chainrings specifically the small ring getting warped by the power meter... I ended up having to buy other chainrings that work fine which is why I asked the question to make sure I would not have the same problems with the specialized chainrings...

Hi Joel,

no problems there - to my knowledge only the FSA chain rings have these unfortunate cut outs.

Hi Nicolas,

I bought a Power2max FSA Gossamer power meter a few months ago in early March. I also purchased the O-Synce head unit with it. It was easy to set up and begin using and I have had no issues until last week. I was racing the Lifetime Fitness Captex Tri and halfway through the bike the head unit reset and went back to the main screen. I quickly hit quick start again and start/stop to get it recording and that worked for a while but then it reset again and I wasn't going to spend time messing with it while in a race. I figured it was just a weird fluke but then the same thing happened again on my training ride Thursday night and again on Saturday. My best guess is it seems to happen when I go over a bump. The unit is mounted on my stem and is pretty stable. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi,

sorry to hear it happened in a race. I personally haven't had the problem, but have heard about it happening rarely. If it does it's because the battery is slightly too loose in the battery compartment. There is an easy fix: pull out the battery and put a bit of 3M film or Sellotape on the flat side, so that the battery goes in and out a bit less easily. That prevents the battery from being bounced about and temporarily losing contact.

I hope this fixes it!

Thanks very much. This does make sense as when I took the battery out I could see it was quite loose inside the compartment. I put some tape over it and will test it this week before Kansas 70.3 this weekend. Thanks for the quick response.

Nicolas,

I'm trying to figure out if the new type will work on an SISL2 crank that has the spidering (a Synapse frame). I noticed on the site it says the ring isn't compatible but is there a workaround?

Thanks.

Hi Carl,

you just need to remove the spider ring and install normal chain rings - that's all that's needed.

Do you make a powermeter that would work with sram XX1 with a 32 , 34 or 36 single chain ring for a epic a works mtb?

Hi Nicolas,

I just got a P2M with 3dplus rotor crank (bcd110). Currently its using an SRAM red chainrings. I want to get the rotor q-ring but not sure if the QXL BCD110 is compatible or not? Should I get the aero rings instead? Appreciate your advice.

btw im using OSBB on Shiv pro 14.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Are you using a Type S? Then there is no problem to use the QXL. On the Classic the battery compartment gets in the way.

Hi Paul,

Then you need to cut out the chain ring around the battery compartment. It's one draw back of the classic compared to the Type S.

@dopers.suck: not yet, check around Eurobike :).

Osmotic is no problem because they are cut out around the area of the battery. Unfortunately I don't know the other ones

Hi Nicolas,

I recently bought a nearly new Power2Max classic from the classifieds on here - just had my first ride on it this morning and am very happy so far! Set up and pairing with a Garmin was super easy.

I was just wondering - as I bought it second hand, it came with a colored ring already on it and I would prefer to go without one or perhaps change to a different color at some point. Is the colored ring just a sticker that can be peeled off or is there a specific way to remove it?

I just want to make sure I don't damage anything in the process.

Thanks!
-Paul

Hi Paul,

great to hear you like your power2max! Yup, no problem to change the colored sticker - just peel it off. If there is any residue don't use thinners on it - that would damage the plastic.

Nicholas,
I've had my Power2Max for about 6 weeks now and it's working great, however there's a strange thing happening with my 510 and Training Peaks. My Normalized Power is always lower than my Average Power...this is, by definition, impossible. NP is always higher than Avg. P. This is a real head scratcher. It happens on every ride, not just occasionally.

Hi,

I am not the definitive resource on Garmin and Trainingpeaks (they are the ones treating the raw data), but I would check two things:
1) Are you using 1-second recording instead of smart recording?
2) Are you using power averaging including zeros?

Cheers
