Exactly, when you go to the calibration screen, let the Garmin do the zero offset calibration and note the number. Do it several times in a row and see if that number changes.

I understand your reasoning that speed to power should always be constant on a trainer. The thing is that trainers are uncalibrated resistance units and subject to many influences that can slightly change resistance over the course of the ride and that makes it pretty much impossible to draw conclusions from trainer rides. If you feel uncomfortable we will test your power meter on a calibrated Cyclus2 scientific erg for precision.

Nicolas, let me reply....

- I messaged customer support first thing this morning, nobody got back to me. Their is no phone number on your site. Can you have someone call me asap
-What I'm not explaining well, is how I can calibrate at any point in a ride and it will shift my readings. For example, I can be biking for 5 minutes steady on a trainer, same gear, same cadence and the power will read on my garmin 200 watts over the 5 minute period. I'm not talking about the average over 5 minutes, I'm saying my 3s average that I read on my Garmin 500 will be at 200 (or within 1 watt) the whole time, it stays very steady. If at any point I stop pedaling for 3 seconds, which it obviously calibrates, and then I resume at exactly what I was doing before (same cadence, same gear etc) the power number will change and can easily be +10 or -10 what I was just seconds before, again it will be very steady, just at a new calibrated steady number. It will then stay consistent at the +10/-10 until I calibrate again and it will jump again. It's almost like the 0 balance gets shifted. I can recalibrate every minute and it can jump around each time I calibrate.
- Something is not right, if you used it for a ride, common sense would make it clear something is off.

Nicolas,

This just popped into my head as I was rummaging through my unused parts bin, and to be completely honest, this post is being made without doing any of my own research, so at the risk of asking a stupid question... I have a MAS from Rotor that I got last year with some QRings. My Type-S has no such interface. I think I'm an "inbetweener" from position "••••" and position "•••", but I don't know for sure. Can my shiny new Type-S be retrofitted with the MAS I have?

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,

unfortunately that's not possible - the MAS spider is replaced by the power meter.

Has anyone tried, or does anyone know if Shimano Dura Ace 7900 chainrings are compatible with a classic 130bcd Power2max? Pictures would be awesome if available! thanks!

Yes sir, you can actually see that combination on the front of the German translation of "training and racing with a power meter": http://www.power2max.de/...sport-und-triathlon/

What will the price be in Europe when it costs $ 1,079 in the U.S..

Can I assume that it will cost 780.49 euros only for the spinner?

Hi Morten,

that's right, the track version is the same cost as the road version for the power meter only: $1079 in the States and €940 in Europe (including sales tax).

Hi Nicolas,

I'm seeing a new graphic for the rotor 3D+ cranks that looks more blacked out. If I order a type S with them will it ship with this new graphic scheme? Thanks!

Hi,

unfortunately as an OEM supplier we get the new graphics later - it will be a while yet.

Nicolas,

Quick question but does the Type S for SRAM work with GXP? In one place it lists only BB/PF30 and in another place it lists those plus GXP. Leaning that way since I'm currently on Sram Reds on my tri bike and "downgrading" to the doesn't seem appealing, plus I can find good deals on S900 arms.

sorry for the confusion - yes the Type S for SRAM works with both.

Nicolas,

I just want to get some info on power meter drift. I did a 2.5 hr workout on the trainer a couple of days ago. Started the workout at -1181 calibration. At the End of the workout, calibration offset was -1186. I did not recalibrate in the middle the workout. Just at the beginning and at the end. I did not stop or coast for the whole workout. What kinda struck me was that my Aerobic Decoupling was around -2% according to Golden Cheetah. Doesn't really make sense that my HR to power ratio was better during the 2nd half of my workout. What does this -5 difference in offset mean? Thanks.

Hi Nicolas,

I have a p2max in 110 BCD that I use between bikes, I'm keen now to get a new p2max crank set ie 130 BCD for my TT bike so I can put on a large (54) rotor Osymmetric chain ring.

2 questions please;

1)What is the most aero and lightest version you have for this please (aero crank arms)?

2) I see that the Osymmetric aero rings are only in large sizes, would the small chain ring have to be in a non-aero style?

Many thanks.

@astig: no need to worry about temperature drift, because the power meter always compensates for temperature changes. The difference in 5 points of the zero offset value gets continuously adjusted as you ride. Regarding pw:hr: in my experience that can happen, for example if I had coffee before the workout and it takes some time to settle into things.

@esox.flucius:
- the most aero power meter is the Type S. The lightest depends on which frame you have, because that determines which cranks are recommended. The Specialized S-Works cranks are very light and look nicely rounded, for example.
- No restrictions on the inner chain rings - osymetric work fine.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Good morning,

i have been using Powertao for the last 2 years. Now I have P2Max in my triathlon bike. Today I have used both and recorded all the data. After the ride I see that the difference btw P2M and PT is about 4,8% (average diff btw NP on each lap I did). (The differences go from 3.5 to 6) Is it normal to have such difference?
Now I am going to train and race only with P2Max so I don't care of the real difference between PT and P2M, but I am worried if my P2M has some problems with the calibration or something as I think that 4m8% difference is too much. (compared to what I have seen in other comparisons through Internet)

Thanks!

Hi yxart,

I can't comment on the calibration or values of other power meters, but can only explain how our units are calibrated: they are calibrated statically several times against an industrially certified torque gauge precise to 0.1% only if the calibration repeatedly does it pass. We have also inspected a lot of power meters after several years of use and it has confirmed the stability of the calibration.

I wouldn't worry about the difference. DC Rainmaker and others have shown that even if you record the same power meter with 2 head units you can get different averages. With 2 power meters and 2 units this uncertainty is increased. The difference is also on the border of the (±2% each), so it all points that everything is within spec.

Cheers

Am I right in thinking that Power2Maxs were at some point in the past calibrated with a dynamic process using a Cyclus II ergometer? If so, can you say when the change to using static calibration happened? It's just that my most recent Power2Max, a Type S, tests very close to what I would expect when I perform a static torque test myself, whereas previous units I've owned have been 2-3% out. So I'm just curious about whether the change in calibration process is the reason for that.

Hi Steve,

the calibration process has always been the static. We use the Cyclus2 as a second, dynamic, test when needed. I think there has been a misunderstanding on another forum regarding this.

Nicolas thank for your help.

1) Could you also please tell me which are the most aero cranks that you have? Would they be compatible with all the powermeter?

2) Is it possible to get an aero asymmetric chainring?

Many thanks.

Hi esox,

I don't have data on aerodynamics of cranks, unfortunately. The first question would be what bottom bracket format and what crank length you are looking for.

Thanks Nicolas,

Just to clarify;

1) I have a p2max with rotor crank arms (110 BCD), they are rather 'square' looking, I was wondering if the k light cranks for example, had smoother edges? This is for a new p2max pm in 130BCD, for TT'ing and with aero Osymmetric rings.

I would want 170mm cranks, BSA BB fitting.

2) I wondered if it was possible to get a SMALL Osymmetric AERO chain ring?

Regards,

Hi Nicolas,

Just installed my P2M FSA to my bike, all works good, but the powerreadings..

I use my Garmin 810, and it shows the cadence. The powerreading goes from '-' to 0. But nothing more..

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi guys,

@esox: the K-force arms are a little more rounded. I took a quick picture: <a href="https://www.flickr.com/...7479@N04/14116074684" title="2014-05-05 11.10.56 by Jever98, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/...684_b749515107_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="2014-05-05 11.10.56"></a>

Re the inner aero osymetric ring: honestly no idea. I would just ask them.

@Schmidt: I guess you simply spun the cranks when the bike is on the stand? Just ride a few meters and it will show up.

Best
