I believe it is very true about the relationship with the rep. I would never condone lying to them and they can easily check the serial number to see if you are the original owner. I have a good relationship with my LBS and it's in their best interest to help me. When I had an issue with my transition it was a known defect and the only way to fix the problem was with a new frame. They never asked me a question and replaced the frame in 3 days, due to positive experience with specialized I have bought 2 more bikes from them. I would say that this is an issue much like the problem with my transition, it's a known issue and would like to get those bikes off the road.
