Does it matter which Praxis I purchase as in Compact, semi-compact, classic?

Compact and semi-compact are 110BCD. Classic is 130BCD.

Looking at Rotor 3d+ manual it looks like the lock ring is TL-LR15 and therefore you could use the Shimano Tl-LR15 tool to remove the Rotor 3d+ crank arm. Is this true? Or is the Rotor tool unique and must purchase with my Power2Max?

Here is a link to the Rotor manual. http://www.rotorbikeusa.com/...0_manual_12-8-10.pdf

Hi guys,

sorry for the absence, took a moment to recover from the race :-).

@bartturner:
- Unfortunately the No-Q Aero has the same issue in compact. It's due to the chain ring being fully enclosed between the bolts, this collides with the battery compartment. We don't recommend the modification because it voids the warranty of the chain ring. I ride like this, though.
- If you switch to a Q-Ring or any other chain ring you don't need to modify anything on the power meter. Just install the ring. No re-calibration is required.
- Regarding the Praxis chain rings: it's exactly as rbrnut writes - thanks for the help! - if you buy the sensor with rings pre-installed you just need to install the sensor on your 3D+ cranks. With the 110BCD unit you can choose the compact (50-34) or semi-compact (52-36).
- Regarding the tool: unfortunately the Shimano tool won't work. It's pretty much the inverse of how Rotor made the lock ring

@Tsarbomba:
- The Lightning crank theoretically would work. I haven't seen a BBRight bottom bracket for them, though (the new P3 is a BBRight frame). If you have the Dura Ace version of the new P3 you have a very simple option: you can upgrade the 3DF cranks that come with the bike by just getting our power meter for $879 and the installation tool you're good to go. That's going to be your most cost-effective approach.

@Y-Tri:
I had a great race, better than I ever hoped, thanks for asking :-). Came in in 9:16:58. Suffered on the second half of the run but had good biking legs :)

Have a good start to the week,

Nicolas

What crank would fit a 2014 Specialized Shiv Expert with a FSA SL-K Light BB30 carbon crankset?

Re: Official power2max support thread [seattlejp] [ In reply to ]

Hi SeattleJP,

on a Shiv you'd want to use a BB30 compatible crank. The Rotor 3DF or 3D+ would be your first choices here.

I hope this helps,

Thanks. Would the power meter option only work for the existing crank?

You'll need to change the cranks. Unfortunately the SLK has an integrated spider, which makes it impossible to install the power meter. If you get the 3DF or 3D+ you get the complete package of power meter plus cranks. The power meter is specific to those cranks, because the interfaces are different between cranks.

Hey,

I have a power2max,great tool and very happy with it so far,I run my p2m with rotor 3D cranks with aero rings and a Garmin 800,

My question is : what software do I need to split the left right and left leg out put ? I know pulling up on the left will act as pressing down on the right and that but I'd like to get a idea of output,I'm also trying to find out where I shoul have my QRings set up and I think I need to work out where I have most power to set the Q up that way,I could be wrong but any help on this would be great,

Cheers Noel,

Hi Noel,

glad to hear that you are enjoying your power2max. A lot of software packages allow you to look at the left-right balance, such as Trainingpeaks or GoldenCheetah.

Hope this helps,

I've been training with my P2Max for about a month now and my L/R power balance is consistantly 47/53. How accurate is the power balance info from P2Max? BTW Great training tool and excellent product easy to install and setup.

Would a rotor 3d+ fit a 2013 cannondale slice rs PF30? The bike has a vision trimax crank so if a rotor 3d+ were to fit I am assuming that would be cheaper than the new s-type (in Feb.) and buying a hollowgram sI.

@trijunkie123: interesting that your balance is consistently the same number. For me it fluctuates up to 2% (50-50 to 52-48). The power2max estimates the L-R by taking the power produced during alternating peaks - i.e. trough to peak to trough is one phase, next trough to peak to trough is the next phase. In normal use it should reflect the power contribution accurately. of course, if you do one legged drills it will be a bit off.

@mtomchan: yup, the 3D+ fits PF30 frames. The 3DF is the slightly cheaper alternatives (but weighs a few grams more). Definitely a lot cheaper than buying the Cannondale cranks separately.

I have two bikes, one bb30 and one bsa68. Would like to be able to switch between them so my question i if I could use a FSA Gossamer crank and an adapter on the BB30 bike?
Presently I have an almost brand new Vision Trimax crankset with 110bcd, are these chainrings compatible with the Gossamer crank in 110bcd?

Hi Pad,

yes, you can run the crank on both frame sets. We have the normal Megaexo bottom bracket for BSA frames and the BB30 adapter from FSA both in our online store. Regarding the chain rings - the Trimax crankset I saw has solid chain rings. In compact they will collide with the battery compartment, so you would need to cut them out in that area. Alternatively we also have an upgrade on offer - Praxis Works chain rings for $99 installed (retail $188 with the chain ring bolts).

You could also use a Rotor 3D+ with the BB30 bearings in your BB30 frame and the Rotor BSA30 conversion bottom bracket in your BSA frame if, for instance, you want a crank length not offered in the Gossamer P2M model.

Hi,

first of all - that bike looks awesome!

It has a BB86, so you could put an FSA Gossamer (cheapest), Rotor 3D, or FSA K-Force Light on there (we will get the K-Force light in next week or the week after). The Gossamer is the cheapest and heaviest, the K-Force Light the lightest and most expensive. I would suggest the Rotor 3D, it's a very popular choice, great combination of weight, looks, stiffness, and price.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions,

Quick question - How long does the auto-zero process take?

Was on the rollers last nite and took a brief break while standing up on the pedals and noticed that my power when I started pedaling again was way high. Stopped for about 10 seconds to have it auto-zero again and power was back to where it was previous to that break.

Just want to know the best way to handle to have consistent reading while doing TrainerRoad....

Hi,

the auto zero happens when you coast for 2 seconds or more.

I realize it happens when you coast for 2 seconds or more, but how long does it last for?

What happened last nite -
  1. In a rest interval, light pedaling at ~60W
  2. Stop pedaling and immediately stand up on pedals for ~1 minute
  3. Sit down and start pedaling again at same cadence as in 1, power is showing as ~100W
  4. Stop pedaling for 10 seconds
  5. Start pedaling again and power is back at ~60W

What I'd like to know is how long the auto-zero takes, so if I stop pedaling and then stand on pedals, I don't mess up the readings.

Hi,

it lasts until the next auto zero, which is the next time you coast after at least 5 crank rotations. If you are riding outside and the temperature changes the compensation mechanism will adapt the zero continuously.

There are two scenarios what may have happened - not sure which one it could be:

1) as you stood on the pedals you managed to trick the auto zero mechanism by keep slight, but very steady, torque on the cranks through tension on the chain, affecting the zero. This is a very rare scenario, because the auto zero conditions are relatively strict

2) your trainer was affected in its resistance by the break. My Elite trainer, for example, exhibits a definite "warm up" and cool down characteristic where power for a given cadence will change.

Hope this is clearer :)

Cheers

That helps a bit.

I suspect it had something to do with scenario 1, as I'm on rollers. The process of standing would have involved hold the front brake, while standing and balancing with the other hand against the wall. There would have been tension on the chain for sure while I was doing this.

I'll just have to keep this in mind for the future. I really need to get comfortable enough on the rollers to shift around on the seat without stopping.

Thanks.

Hi Nicolas

Can you help me get the correct model? I need a PM for my 2014 Specialized Tarmac. The Power2Max guys that I spoke to over email suggested the FSA Gossamer or Rotor 3D, so I ordered the FSA. It arrived but it doesn't fit the bike: the axle diameter on the FSA is much too narrow. It looks like the Rotor 3D is also a 24mm axle. Please help to advise what will actually fit.

Hi Rob,

sorry to hear that there has been an issue. Who did you email with? I found your order but didn't see any correspondence. Was it with the North America team?

It's possible to fit the FSA Gossamer using an adapter BB, but a 30mm axle would fit the bottom bracket that you already have. I'll PM you our contact details (just to avoid spam bots).
