Goals for this week: recover from long ride (I have no idea what my legs are going to feel like), get ready to race a sprint on Sunday - so will need to swim once or twice this week. Also going to try to keep the bike miles up :-)

As it happens, my legs were fine, I was just super tired from midday Monday until midday Saturday.
I rode longish on Saturday as it was my next-to-last day with my new bike (am flying tomorrow) - I love that bike, I am going to miss it!
Didn't get a chance to swim but it didn't seem to hurt me.
Did keep the bike miles over 100 so pleased there.

M - 9.5 mi run
T - 8.6 mi run
W - 6.4 mi run + 22 mi bike
T - 11 mi run
F - 7 mi run + 45 min yoga
S - 50 mi bike
S - sprint tri (3rd FOV) 500 yd swim/14.5 mi bike/3.6 mi run. + 1000 yd swim w/u + 14.5 mi bike c/d (point to point race, rode back to car)

Totals: 1600 yd swim, 101 mi bike, 46.1 mi run

I am happy overall - had some fast runs in there, the tri went well (even though I missed 2nd place female by 42 seconds and am trying to get over it ;-), had fastest swim split in the tri (guys and girls!)...

Flying to Salt Lake City early Tues. am to spend time with my brother before flying to school on Sept. 28. I am excited to do some stuff in Salt Lake City - look for next week's post to include some hiking! I'm not going to make any specific goals as I don't know what the week will bring...

Last week was OK. I survived my first week at the new job. yay.
Run goal met - 40mi in the week.
bike - epic fail. only 1 ride, on the weekend.
Swim - once. Was supposed to be twice but I went to get my muscles worked on for a possible pinched nerve... ugh.
This week - keep up run miles.
Get on that bike, and swim twice.
Saturday is a fun trail relay, and I'm looking forward to it. Sunday I have CX race #2 of the year. Race #1 went just fine, except for an unexpected wheel change mid-race. But I wasn't last.
The long work commute I just started is not bad, but I get frustrated that I'm not being productive. I am listening to an audiobook.

FINALLY had some solid runs this week. Good track session, hill repeats and a healthy negative split on my 7 mile run yesterday.

I've added some more protein into my diet and I think the iron and B12 supplements are starting to have an affect. It's been about a month since I started them so it makes sense that I'm feeling better.

Have a great time in Salt Lake.

Good luck on the race on Sunday, determination!

M-W- recovery from race on Sunday, my calves were mooing for 3 days straight courtesy of a 200 m run up the sand to transition.
Weds- Went to see a taping of the show Mike & Molly...it was hilarious, my sister enjoyed going up and entertaining the crowd with her many talents. It was a later night than I was expecting. Had to drive up through the lovely LA traffic...ick, not so bad by the time we left.
Thur- Open water swim & walk - swam 1/2 mile, walked 1 mile chatting w/my training buddies.
Fri- off
Sat- hill ride. rode with a local try shops group, was the only female, got dropped about 3 miles in, but caught back up due to someone getting a flat about 1/2 a mile from where we get off the trail and on to streets to go up the hill. I made all the way up to the top for the first time, though I had to stop a few of times on the way up. (about 39 miles)
Sun- Semi- flat smaller group ride from Honda Center (I still like to call it the Pond) to Green River (about 32 miles). had an unclip fail at the end of the ride, 5 feet from my car. banged up my knee a bit.

This week-
Mon- Swim- plan is for open-water-
Tues- Run
Wed- Bike or run
Thur- Swim/run brick
Fri- off
Sat- Paddle board, swim
Sun- Bike

Last week was stressful - being on the road, missing home, family, routines - having to work all hours remotely while trying to attend a conference - I felt very stressed which is when I eat & drink to cope. I managed to ride 1hr (intervals), 1hr (2&from work) and run 3x (on the UNLV campus which is a lot nicer than the strip!). I'll take it. Decided to fly home a day early (Thurs instead of Fri) because I was missing P so damn much. Rode to & from work on the Friday and mis-navigated a goofy corner (weird pavement/gutterpan mismatch) and had a slow fall - which left me with lovely road rash on my front right shin. Yay for me.

I stepped on the scale when I got home and was pretty horrified. Sometimes seeing a number you haven't seen in a while is a great wakeup call. After lots of thinking, I realize that I haven't been exercising at lunch (used to be a daily habit), haven't been eating right (letting my appetites run wild), have been drinking too much (all wasted calories), I sit too much at work (sometimes all day), and have way too much stress at work. I have just been promoted to a slightly different position - ok double title, double responsibility, not double pay - but this new opportunity is my chance to try to restructure my days. My new "role" is one where I get to basically teach, coach, mentor and do a lot of long-term planning and short-term work. It's something I've really been looking forward to, although the hard part will be letting go of a bunch of the other things I used to do (i.e.: delegating but still keeping on top of).

P has Leadman Bend (full!) this coming weekend so hopefully I can get enough work done so I can go sherpa for him. I am hoping to run an XC race the weekend after. So my goals this week: run 4x, anything else aerobic with intensity 3x (spin or elliptical), manage my stress, get to Bend.

Last week
Main goal was recovery week for marathon training.
I got in 59 miles, w/ 24 long run, but managed 3 days off, so my legs do feel better today.

This week
I have three more hard weeks before taper. I lost a day yesterday due to travel, so I have six more day of this week to do well.
I'd like to get in 70 miles this week w/ long run b/t 20-25.
Bike - probably not
Swim - would like 2-3 days.

GOAL RACE - Marathon 2 Marathon, in Marathon, Texas on Oct 26th.

Happy training everyone.

I totally backed off on training after seeing the concussion specialist last Monday - I cried Tuesday, which gave me a more wicked than usual headache, so no more self-pity!! I stayed home Wednesday to rest and regroup, then I dropped everything I had planned for the rest of the season. I knew that if I didn't, I'd be too tempted to push when I shouldn't. I reached out to friends - sometimes I tend to just want to hide myself away when times are rough, but I've learned how valuable friends are, and I have an awesome support system. I wore my HR monitor to try to get a better idea of my normal heart rate for certain activities - I can walk at a 20-22 min/mile pace for a couple of miles, and I can swim 15-20 minutes of very easy swimming, so that's my starting line. I did go over my "limit" a few times while watching the Houston Texans football game on Sunday ;-) I'm still doing PT for my neck and shoulder, so I get a little physical activity there, too.

I went today for the "paper and pencil" part of the cognitive testing, and I'm more tired than if I'd just done a killer workout. I'll meet next week to get the results, but I was disappointed about the parts I struggled with. I expected to do fine on the verbal parts because that's always been my strength, but I had a hard time with recalling words, and I was ridiculously bad at "name as many things that start with the letter "f" as you can in 60 seconds" and "name as many animals as you can in 90 seconds." A couple of times I just stopped and was totally blank, but I guess that's part of the test too - how well you do under pressure and when starting to fatigue.

My goals for this week are to do what I can, and not do what I shouldn't!

mdiane - Hope you get well soon.

Last week I knew was going to be tough and it was. My goal was to just get through it. Accomplished.

Mon: Work 10 hrs, go home and pack.

Tue: Up at 4:40 AM, go to airport, fly to SF, get picked up by Hinds57 (whom I've known for 15 years or so). He took me to In N Out (which we don't have here), then to Peets (ditto), then over the new Bay Bridge (pretty!) to Oakland where we drank some beer to calm our nerves. Went to Allie's memorial and it was very very nice and lots of people there. I'd written something on the plane and thankfully our friend Paule read it for me. I don't think I would have been able to get through it. Afterwards, nearly everyone went to Lauren & Morgan's house for food and more conversation. Finally about 8PM my friend Annabell drove me to her house where I spent the night.

Wed: Up early and Jean drove me to SFO and I flew back to Nashville. That was pretty much the entire day since you can't get there from here without stopping somewhere.

Thurs: To work early since it was an audit of our office and our general counsel was in from SF. Worked 10 hours then a work dinner out.

Fri: Had thought about going swimming in the AM but turned off the alarm and went back to bed. Three hours later - oops, I should go to work! Out with friends after work.

Sat: Didn't get out of bed until nearly 11:00 AM. Mentally exhausted. Didn't do much all day and later went to early dinner and early to bed.

Sun: First day in nearly two weeks that I felt "normal". Went on a 20 mile bike ride. Officially back in training mode.

Goals for this week: Get back in the pool (it's been over a year). Do something every day.

Rough thing to have to do in any week, my heart goes out to you. I'm glad it was a nice memorial.

My week sucked from an exercise perspective; I picked up my new bike on Tuesday, and it's been sitting in the living room being admired ever since.
Runs run - 0
Rides ridden - 0
Swims swum - 0
Epic fail.

I did get some quality learner-driving hours in with my stepson, had a bunch of fun at the weekend going round to local apple festivals and Old Homes days with my other half, and my clarinet quartet had our first rehearsal since May. So an otherwise pleasant week.

Plans for this week include "meet the teachers" at school tomorrow and perhaps getting to the pool after, maybe getting a run in on Friday, and weather permitting, throwing the new bike in the car and taking it out to a wide, flat, open space where I can learn to ride on aero bars and use my bar end shifters without fear of falling off and being run down by an errant motorist :o)

Small but important plan for the weekend is to get a bike on the trainer and persuade myself that starting next week I need to haul my lazy backside out of bed an hour earlier in the morning so that I don't squander all of the fitness gains I've made over the season before October starts!
