Yes the weather was not the best this year, but bad weather for Norseman just add to the experience.
Interesting fact, Norseman was the first triathlon ever for the female winner. She ran just 8 minutes sower than the fastest male.

My goal is to have more women sign up. Norseman is a fabulous race, also for women.

At least the water temp wasn't too bad this year :)

This sounds amazing. I've looked at the pictures and read race reports for years. Maybe this year is the year to enter the lottery...

All you've got to do is move that race to a place warmer and less expensive than Norway and you'll get your wish. :-)

Great race & report! You ate a lot of gels! Everytime I read a Norseman report, I think how awesome would that be. But I dont think I have what it would take to do it. What convinced you to enter?

I wanted to do my first Iron distance race, but I was very indecisive about which one. I knew we would be moving to Europe, but it was way too late to sign up for the nearby/popular races. When I saw the lottery, I figured I'd enter and if I didn't get in, I'd wait until 2014 to do an Ironman. I also didn't really expect to be chosen, but after the shock wore off a few weeks later, the race was a great source of motivation to get me through the drama of moving overseas again.

Norway is a beautiful place. I'd been to the fjords before, but never that far inland. It was simply amazing!

Are there a lot of hot Scandinavian men? If so, I'm totally in.

Seriously, though - I guess it's because I'm from California where the ocean never even hits 70 that I don't understand the freakout about cold water.

I'm fine until the water gets so cold that I get a toothache and ice-cream headache from the water.

When that happens, I might need to double-cap.

If you race Norseman you will meet a lot of fit men from Scandinavia. If they are hot or not? I leave that to your judgment.
But the overall I believe that the Norseman athletes are fitter that what you will find at an Ironman.

The swim is not the hardest part of Norseman. It is special to enter the ferry in the middle of the night. The jump is something to remember. A fjord swim is nice, even though it can be rough. But with only 250 athletes you can swim almost without getting hit and since most swim close to shore it is easy to find a good line.

My recommendation: sign up if you want to race something different.

How many women are normally in the field of 250?

This year 30 women finished Norseman. 15 got the black t-shirt and 15 got the white.

Did you have a sense of what the Ironman time cutoffs were for acceptance? I know Elites Women need to be 11 hrs or faster.

There are no cut off time for signing up. For many Norwegians Norseman is their first triathlon. This was the case for the fastest female this year. Norseman was my first long distance triathlon.
