A couple of pics of my Jamis Xenith T2.
CO2, tools and a sew-up are tucked away in an Arundel Water Bottle. Garmin 500 is out front as a head-up display (see discussion thread here), as is the water bottle. All very aero except that I need to better conceal the cables by biting the bullet and converting my Old-English-Style Front-brake-on-the-right to join the rest of the world with the front on the left. That will be a hard habit to break after 30 years.

Frame is from Dengfu, which bears some resemblance to a Scott Plasma, and the wheels are also Chinese tubs, which are yet to be ridden.
Quark and Ultegra Di2 with DIY satellite shifters on the base bars, TRP brakes and a crazy expensive Dash saddle :)

Its first major outing will be Ironman Zurich in just over 5 weeks time.

I never got around to taking photos of mine because they were always in a constant state of being tinkered with. However, two of my bikes reached their final evolution yesterday.

Many thanks to everyone who helped me put these together! Benny at Wheelbuilder deserves a special call-out for being awesome.

Looks like a pretty nasty delamination on that Boardman rear.
Any idea what caused it? Damge, heat build-up, manufacturing fault?
Best of luck in Klagenfurt.

Hi Barchettaman,

I think it was delamination of the rim through heat buildup / manufacturing issue(?) under some heavy braking.

I'd struggled that morning to fully inflate the rear tub (stupid valve extenders) and so was running at about 90psi. Hadn't had any issues but then hit a relatively small pothole whilst travelling uphill (and hence weight over front wheel) at probably 8 mph. This was an opportunity to stop, remove tyre (so I could open the pesky valve) and fully re-inflate the tub. I saw no evidence of rim failure at that point, and given the failure was at the valve section of the rim, either I or the four people watching me change a tub would have pointed it out.

Not long afterwards we were overtaken by a tractor towing a trailer who then decided to stop just around the next corner, I hammered the anchors on and came to a stop (leaving a few skid-marks along the way…. and I'm not just talking about on the tarmac). Thankfully I missed the trailer by about 50 cm so I continued on after wishing the farmer well.

I continued on for another 3.5 hours on the ride and it was only on cleaning the bike that I discovered the rear wheel was totally gubbed.

The local bike shop I bought the bike from have been pretty decent, but their hands are tied. Unfortunately the Boardman rep has jumped to the conclusion that it was pothole damage and is unwilling to even consider a warranty claim. I've hit far bigger potholes, far harder than I did that day and caused no damage to any of my wheels. The rest of the club cycling with me that day are pretty shocked that the wheel is wrecked. I've even removed the tub from that wheel and sent pictures of the wheel showing no rim damage (other than the delimitation of the braking surface) to the rep, but so far (after >1 week of waiting) I've heard nothing. It's a real shame, I've got 4 Boardman Elite bikes and this is the first problem I've encountered… I was hoping for better customer service to be honest.

Their only suggestion was to buy a new rear from them at £350 + VAT, totalling £420 but I thought my money would be better invested in a pair of Zipp 404s… hence the upgrade.

Many thanks for your kind wishes - I'm really looking forward to Klagenfurt… a week from now hopefully I'll be ZIPPing along through the Austrian countryside with a big grin on my face :D

Nasty.
90 psi at your weight is a bit low, but.... I would be surprised if a small pothole at that speed would cause that kind of damage. Also am surprised at Boardman's reaction, particularly as you are a repeat customer.... such is life.
Buying direct from China, I would expect better service than that.
Hope the knee holds up OK in Austria.

Yep, as you say a surprising reaction but c'est la vie… I'll continue to chase them to see if I can get a resolution but couldn't take a chance on not getting sorted by next weekend - IM ride will be hard enough - didn't fancy it without a rear wheel!

Thanks - knee is holding up well and I've just completed the last few runs - next week will be very easy, less than 5 hours, until Sunday when things will get interesting!

Thanks for reading the blog - will update with progress and a race report after Sunday is complete :-)

Turns out that the Boardman rep didn't receive my email last week, hence the late reply. He replied within a couple of hours of sending it and to cut a long story short, he has agreed to replace my wheel as a gesture of good will. They will investigate my wheel and use it on on one of their test bikes. Thoroughly impressed now! I'm really proud to be riding and supporting a British brand; I appreciate problems can happen, it's how they are resolved that are important, so hats off to Boardman for their support. :-)

I'll toss my two cents in. Not only am I bad at uploading stuff to ST as per my last post, but this bike breaks all the rules of bike photos. The best part is I really dont care.

Until I can afford a dedicated TT bike I'm on my roadie...been considering putting wheels/bars on it vs. just saving up for a real TT bike. Probably just choose the latter.

My ride I've been building up over the winter. Here she is, race-ready (almost, just missing BTA bottle), ahead of Syracuse 70.3. First TT bike I've owned, so comparisons might be limited, but I do love this bike.

Not the best pictures, but please be nice -- I'm very sensitive!! :-)

Beautiful bikes. I'm also rocking a ventus+omega front brake.

I also want to note that having quality photographs like yours makes a wold of difference. Thanks for sharing.

Neither. A spirit level in a black cover, a barbell, paper towel on side of tool box, weight plates, dart board, coolant. Hope that helps your interest in back grounds :)
