Group Rides in Greenville, SC
My wife and I are taking a mini vacation to Greenville in June. I was wondering if anybody had some good group rides to hopefully get into while I am there.

I am hoping for a ride of at least 20+ mph. And I am not to concerned about the distance. Just as long as we aren't going 300k for the ride

Tuesday Night at Donaldson Center (SCATC). Any shop should be able to flll you in on this ride, the "A" group on Perimeter Road is well over 20, the "B" group is over 20, and out in the countryside groups there should be 1 or 2 groups over 20.

No aerobars in the Perimeter groups, think of those as practice circuit races.

Even if you don't like baseball check out a Greenville Drive game, not expensive and you get to see the sun set over Paris Mountain.

Do they still have the airport ride? Hincappie showed up when I rode it years ago. Everyone chipped in $3 for police escort on A and B rides. A ride was smokin fast.

Damn, that's a cold ass honkey.

They still have in, starts in April, goes until the time changes. "A" could be averageing 27, that hurts even with the big draft.

If you don't mind a short jaunt down I-85 from Greenville, there's a great Saturday morning ride in Anderson, SC. The main circuit is 47 miles with easy additions to make it 65 or 75. Leave's from New Spring Church parking lot at 8 am. That's on the NE side of Anderson ... nearest to Greenville. Come down I-85 and exit onto SC 81 South then it's about 2 miles on your right. Huge Mega-church, but it sits back a bit off the road, so you have to be looking.

Lots of roadies and triathletes, both. The group breaks up and folks go whatever pace they see fit. Usually some pretty fast guys there. We have a couple of re-group points along the route. Mix of hills and nice, long flat stretches. No major climbs, but a couple of the hills hurt.

The Donaldson Center (SCTAC) is probably the best organized group ride in the area which has both a the fast paced circuit and a country ride loop, starts at 6pm each Tuesday. Each of the local bike shops have a Saturday morning ride too which you can check with ahead of time for what kind of groups show up and how far they are going.

I do a Wednesday lunch ride from our headquarters which is on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. If you can average 20mph for the ride then I will buy you a beer or two. It's about 31 miles and almost 3600 feet of climbing. We leave at exactly noon.

If you like to ride the mountains with smaller group drop me a PM. I live about 15 miles north of Greenville. Ride out of the driveway early Friday afternoon 2-3 hours. Saturday mornings 4-5 hours. Sunday afternoon 1-2 hour easy. Triathletes and aerobars welcome. Also ride 30 miles with a few thousand feet of climbing on Tuesday and Thursday evening.
