Bodyglide samples or your portable lube tricks
Quote | Reply
So a few years ago a local store had these body glide samples. They looked just like a body glide stick, but were super tiny. They were the perfect size to stuff in a pack or pocket or special needs bag. I can't seem to find them anywhere anymore. Does anyone know where I can get some?

OR

What tricks do you have to carry lube? I am doing some really long runs these days. I have a race in a couple of weeks that has only one aid station at mile 16 (its a 50k). I have a running pack I carry on really long runs or runs that take me into the wilderness. I really want lube to carry with me. I love Bodyglide for feet or other places. I have heard about people using a baggy with vaseline, but that just sounds super greasy. What other portable lube options do people use?

I don't know. That one looks too big, but pics lie. The big sticks are 1.3 oz. What I am looking for is really tiny. They are like the 1inch x 1inch x half inch. I can't imagine the store was giving away $5 items as samples and letting me take handfuls of them for free, but then again, they are out of business.

I bought one at Tri-zone some years ago. The size was right but bodyglide doesn't work for shit. I go with personal lubricant and stock up on the free samples offered online.

You can get small tubes of vaseline, look in the "baby" section at the grocery store.

Not done this, not seen it, but heard it from an ultra runner, you can slice a section off the top of body glide stick with a really sharp blade, put that slice in a small baggy, or wrap it in cling film

Does anyone have experience using Chamois butter on feet and other rub spots?

Seems like a small stick (the size you can find everywhere) should not be a problem if you already carry a backpack, and definitely not in a special needs bag...

I preventatively lube the heel and arch areas of my cycling and running shoes with chamois cream prior to racing and it seems to help prevent blisters. David K

Don't think they will allow you to take it on a plane as carryon. I never know whether a semi-solid is considered a quarter bag liquid by TSA standards. If you have a 90% empty 9oz tube of toothpaste it can't be taken on as carryon even though there is only 0.9ozs of actual substance.

Swim - Bike - Run the rest is just clothing changes.

Yes - I use for just about everything, including wetsuit rub spots, between toes, etc.

Yes. I am horrifically allergic to Bodyglide but no Chamois butter. Scared to try anything else. :)

I use chamois butter as lube for anywhere during IM or an emergency application during a long session.

I take a ziploc sandwich bag and put the lube in the bottom, squeeze the air out and seal the bag. When I need to apply, I put the bag on my hand like an inside out glove and rub what I need, where I need it. Turn the bag right side in, reseal and I am on my way.

I've had luck with chapstick or other lip balm on my feet. It's small, cheap, comes in a self applicator so you don't get it all over your hands, resealable. Could be used anywhere, toes, heels, inner thighs. Just don't mix it with your winter stick and you're all set.

Great things never come from comfort zones.

Yes, great stuff. Used one of those sample sizes at IMC special needs. Nothing beats rubbing lube onto your privates whilst two young and attractive volunteers massage sunbeam onto your shoulders. One of the highlights of my day!

I got a sample in a race pack and saved it for the race, but happy to see you can buy them in 10 packs so thanks for stating the thread.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I think I might give chamios butter a try. But I emailed body glide too and they responded that they still have the tiny things but they sell them now http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/BGL108/

I guess they figured out people like me like them.

I cut off the top of a body glide stick and put into a zip lock bag with the air pushed out.

Before my last long-course race I picked up some Dr. Scholls Blister Defense - it's similar to Body Glide, but comes in a small stick - 0.3 oz, just a little larger than a tube of chapstick.

Not sure why you are referencing the TSA...nothing to do with OP..........but no you wouldn't be allowed to take an identified white semi solid in a baggy or wrapped in cling flim on a plane
