Zone 5 Events is hosting the Mountain Madness Triathlon on May 6th 2012. The race will consist of 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. The event will take place at Carters Lake, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia very close to Ellijay, GA (about an hour north of Atlanta).
Our course is tough. This is not a PR race. As fellow athletes, we believe there are plenty of existing events where you can get in your aero-bars and hammer out the miles. We are looking for something more fun. We are giving a King of the Mountain award for the fastest climb up Fort Mountain (a 6 mile climb to the bike turn around). We are also giving awards for every discipline (fastest swim, T1, bike, T2, run) plus some other odd awards that will make the race more entertaining.
The swim will be held in the clear calm waters of Carters Lake. The bike portion is an out and back course that winds around the lake and heads north to Ft. Mountain State Park and returns back to Carter's Lake, allowing athletes to experience the beautiful scenery and challenging hills this area has to offer. The run course offers a continuation of the challenging terrain at one of North Georgia's best kept secrets.
Spectators will have an excellent view of the race overlooking both the swim course and transition area from atop the beach area. In addition, the 2-loop run course allows you to cheer your favorite athletes and teammates across the finish line. This race offers some of the more unique terrain you will find in the southeast region. It is designed for triathletes looking for the next challenge. Push yourself and come experience what makes this half distance triathlon the best in the region.
