LADIES: what road shifters do you use for smaller hands?
I'm trying to figure out what the best road shifters would be for my fiancees hands. Shimano Ultegra brifters didn't seem to work as she couldn't brake effectively from the hoods; I had to set her bike up for her to ride in the drops all the time in order to brake and shift.

Anyone out there with short fingers find a solution to riding on the hoods?

SRAM has adjustable reach on shifters. It may be just red but I think it's on force as well

SRAM makes the best brifters for small hands, IMO.

Thats what I was guessing. Anyone know if the whole line has the adjustable reach? Apex-Red? Or is it just Red?

I put some spacers in for my wife so the pull was shorter

I have apex on my road bike, I have used the entire SRAM line and can confirm that all SRAM shifters have reach adjust. I have also used 10 speed campy and 11 speed campy and those feel quite nice for my smaller hands. However, the price and serviceability of SRAM slightly edges out campy. Just my opinion.

I think the whole line of Sram is good, I had sram force and they fit much better than ultegra.

Google "Shimano Brifter Shims"

You could also install brake interupter levers, assuming that she can reach out and shift ok.

SRAM can be adjusted with a screw inside the brifter. not sure how close they actually get, but they're adjustable. my wife's got tiny hands and the mechanics said SRAM would work. shimano's brifters use shims; i assume they're cheap and easy but haven't actually tried them myself. remember - small bars, too!

Shimano makes the R600 and R700 series and I am pretty sure they are built with smaller hands in mind....

My wife has these shims on her 105 shifters. The reach fits her average-female-sized hands perfectly and she brakes easily from the hoods.

My 105s have the shims and they work great. Some of the WSD bikes spec them for that reason.

I had some "small" Dura Ace shifters that were ideal for smaller hands. I sold them on a year ago and I don't remember the series number.
